Mikov Praktik, a Czech Built Tank

This is a first impressions initial review of the Mikov Praktik, a Czech 111mm tank. First impressions, the build quality on my knife is excellent. All the springs are flush with the spacers and the inside of the knife is clean and free of manufacturing debris.

Everything on this knife, the springs, tools and liners are made of stainless steel, which means that this thing is a bit weighty but in a good way, a Buck 110 kind of way, a weight of quality.

The tools:

The saw and knife are liner locking, and the knife has a nice half stop as well. The knife came razor sharp with a nice even grind on both sides and the saw teeth are well ground and sharp.

The can opener is the Wenger/Leatherman style claw, and it's not as sharp as a Wenger but I have no doubt it will open a can with no issues.

The bottle opener/flat screwdriver has a half stop and is about the same size as the locking ones on the newer 111mm Soldier pattern by Victorinox, and has a wire cutting notch.

The corkscrew is well made, but cannot accomodate a Victorinox Micro screwdriver, it seems the pitch is different.

The last tool, and the only gripe I have with this whole knife is the awl. It is a nailbreaker! Maybe I need longer nails but I opened it once on inspection, and it's well made and sharp, in the same style of a Wenger awl, pointed for puncturing but with no sewing eye or sharpened edge.

Scales are made of a orange nylon, very very close to Victorinox's nylon scales, grippy and well made, there's no scale overlap, fitting up the the spacers really well.

There aren't any toothpick or tweezers on this model unfortunately.

Overall, I think this is a great alternative to a Victorinox 111mm, this model cost me $31.00 USD off of Amazon and I am really quite impressed with the build quality and fit and finish of this knife, well done Czechs, you've built a beautiful tool!

As a Czech, I'm glad you discovered this brand with long tradition. I believe you will be satisfied. Before I became addicted to original SAKs a few weeks ago, I had used a cca 30 years old Spartan-like Mikov as my one and only "SAK"

I do not like buying Chinese knives, and pretty much Rough Rider is all I limit myself to. However, the French (Opinel), the Swedes (Mora), the Spaniards (Joker, Nieto) the Italians (Antonini, MAC Coltellerie), and the Czechs (Mikov) can make a comparable if not better workhorse for the same or less money.

Recently, a dealer here in the US focusing on woodworking supply has imported a range far larger than what Blue Ridge Knives was distributing to dealers across the US.

This is the one I'm getting, a model called the Fixir. It will be a tool I'll take hunting and fishing, as well as camping. Before the woodworking supply dealer started selling them, I was looking at a model that dropped the openers--but I kinda need that tool. My shotgun is only assembled with pins and large flathead screws; thus that screwdriver will work. There is a model like yours that is just blade and saw that I like as well. Keep It Simple Stupid. That's the only two tools I use hiking in the heavily wooded fields behind the house anyway.

I'll post an update to this thread, been carrying this off and on since I've got it and am still impressed, no issues, other than occasionally needing a cleaning and an oiling. My only gripe continues to be the tough spring on the awl, still very stiff but overall, very impressed.

I have the Mikov equivalent of a Vic Tinker. It's a shelf queen. Seems well made and functional. Just I've carried this same old Tinker for 20+ years and am wedded to it.

Would buy Mikov if no Vics around. Quality knives.

I have the same Mikov as Andy, with the fork. Very happy with it. But it didn´t come sharp out of the box, and the logo (a silver lion) wore off pretty fast.

These used to be available only in blue, which just isn't my colour. This, on the other hand, may well be my next not-very-Swiss Swiss Army Knife.

I found a vendor on EBay that had a blue Spartan-style Mikov, tho I realized afterwards that he's in Germany, so my knife is in quarantine for the time being.

Not as good as SAK but usable.
