Quarantine Projects
on: March 31, 2020, 12:48:38 AM
Unlike some of my friends, I have decided to take this all serious and limit my exposure. I have a bunch a friends that are out running around right now and I have tried to politely explain, if you will just shelter for a little while, we can get things back to normal. They are quite resistant. Sadly, the place where I am moving has a COVID-19 case now. They were the last county in AZ with no one infected...but a resident decided he really needed a shopping trip in Phoenix, and now my friends out there may have to stay at home because the copper mine may need to shut down for awhile...oh well.

Anyway, back on topic. So, with a lot of extra time in the apartment, I started thinking of really dumb things to try, and I think I have my first project! With the strategic placement of mirrors and a green laser pointer, I am going to attempt to shoot a continuous beam through every room in the apartment and hit my coffee cup on the table next to me. Yes, this project has absolutely NO value whatsoever, but dang it, that has never stopped movie stars or politicians...why should it stop me?

How about you fellers? Anyone got an insanely pointless project in mind? I will let you know how mine goes.

Looking forward to your results.

My projects are all busy work - replaced bunjee cord on my river kayak cleaned my gutters worked on my partners campervan cut up loads of scrap wood that's been annoying me for years, worked on my daughters new sea kayak just stuff to keep me occupied.

Life has definitely taken a turn for the surreal !

Hung a few mirrors. I am definitely going to need some more. It is too bad I am not still working in the computer business...the disk from a hard drive makes a great mirror. So far I can fire the pointer from my couch and get it to bounce around into the bedroom. I am going to definitely need quite a few to get it to all the bedrooms.

Would cd/dvd's work?

Not really pointless. It can work as an intrusion detection device. If the beam gets interrupted, someone got in the way.

I've been painting the kids room if that helps. I also took my sons old bike, stripped it (using nothing but mini knipex pliers and a Spartan  :D) and restored and rebuilt it for my youngest son. Cleaned up the balcony, hung a tarp, gave the fish tank a full back to basics cleanup, cleaning out the grouting in the bathroom, tidied up a bunch of cupboards....

Basically, getting stuff done that I've been putting off for too long :)

Sounds like the next project - get around while avoiding the first one. :D

That laser project sounds like a very good use of your time, spudley  :like: If you had something to make fog, it would really look cool. Maybe turn on the shower with steaming hot water. Might take a while though to get into every room

I am doing some repairs at home and ordered paracord to make some projects.

Take the time you'd spend in transports, to and from work, and use it for something you like.

Yeah I think to qualify for this thread you'll need to condition it as well.

I’ve been doing a couple paracord projects.  Today I divide large bags of dog treats into smaller vacuum sealed bags.

I’ve been meaning to study for the HAM General license, but keep putting it off.  I’ve always had a difficult time understanding and retain electronics, but now would be a good time. :bnghd:

Here is the double dog leash I made for a friend.
