Anyone tried adding nail nicks for lefties
on: August 20, 2020, 09:46:02 PM
Searched “Adding nail nicks for lefties” and nothing came up.

I am a wrong handler. By way of SAKwiki, I know Wenger, god bless them, once made a line of lefty SAKs. I see them come up for sale on EBay from time to time.

But I like my Victorinox SAKs and wonder if anyone has tried grinding a nail nick into a Victorinox main blade ?

Might a Dremel tool work, or would that overheat the blade and compromise the steel?

If not a Dremel, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I'm a lefty as well and I think nail nicks on the "wrong" side would likely confuse the hell out of my fingers.   :D
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I should think a new nick on the left side will likely meet up with the existing one. Maybe Dremel the nick until it goes right through, so you end up with something à la Swiza? And perform the operation under cold running water to maintain the blade's temper? (I'm just guessing.)

Swiza's tools, except for the lock, are in a left-handed/reverse setup already.

I haven’t heard of or done one, but shouldn’t be a problem if you keep it water cooled while you cut as previously suggested. Probably not needed for the nail nick, but not going to hurt if you keep it cool.

There’s lots of exposed space to put it in.
