Leatherman ST 300 Lock Button Hard To Press?
on: October 10, 2020, 04:54:11 PM
Hi all, got a ST 300 recently and noticed that one of the lock buttons is hard to press when a tool is flipped out for use.

For example, if I flip out the regular blade for use and go to put it back in its handle, the button is pretty stiff to press and may require jiggling the blade to press the button. Or, I must press the button down with both thumbs to release the blade. This happens for all the tools on that handle but the other handle's button presses down without issue.

Will the stiff button loosen up or will it remain stiff forever?

I vaguely remember for ST, one of the tool is resting directly on the lock tab. When your other finger are resting on the internal tools while depressing the lock tab, you are countering the downwards pressure. Not sure if I make any sense.. 🤔

I have a couple of ST300 and the locks are not stiff.

Seems to be an issue with yours.

You could try cleaning it  bit and oiling it

:iagree: wonder what the issue could be if not just needing cleaned and oiled

I suppose it would have helped if I explained that pressing down on the button makes it "click" and release.

I did clean and oil it. It seems like there is interference between the lock and the tools. When the lock goes into the notches in the tools, the lock gets stuck. Seems like this is an isolated incident which is disappointing. I haven't had very good experience with Leatherman quality (not only this tool) which is sad...
