I might join, not sure yet. My 111mm don’t see too much use, so it might be a boring challenge just seeing the cheesemaster prepare oatmeal and snacks
The main blade can do a lot. So can the cheese blade

Don’t even get me started about all the hidden talents of that corkscrew!!!

Welcome aboard, Simon!

Thanks, Nix, glad to be on board after all

Now the big question is which SAK to use? To make it more of a challenge, I am thinking about using just one item the whole time. The available options are: Workchamp, Hercules, Tradesman (all with slide locks) as well as liner locked Skipper, Outrider, GAK, Cheese Knife and Cheese Master.

The GAK is out, I tried it in a challenge earlier this year and just didn't get it. I guess the Outrider (which completely incidentally happens to be my latest 111 mm acquisition ) is the most obvious choice. What do you guys think?

I’ve just got a new Outrider too Simon, (also have a GAK, soldier, adventurer and rucksack)…think I’ll use them all at some point but if just one gotta be the outrider being new but suppose depends what tasks you think will come up for you in January  I’d like a workchamp but can’t see me carrying it as edc if I do get one

Try the Workchamp. More options = more fun!

Yes, well, that's the problem, thanks to the lockdown I am never far away from my toolbox these days, so situations where only the SAK is at hand will be scarce. The Workchamp is the 111 mm Swisschamp - always a safe choice if you can manage the bulk. That said, I think the slide lock Hercules might be a hidden urban champion - its not that much bigger than the liner lock Outrider and adds a useful inline Philips and pliers. In fact, without the saw it would qualify as the CT34's rugged cousin. Maybe I should go for that one?

Thanks Ulzhan, looks as if you posted this while I was just replying to Echotech. You guys might be right, I could let down my hair a bit and go for a more extravagant option. But if I do, I think I will go for the Hercules given that it is slightly more pocketable than the Workchamp and I could compare it to my normal EDC, the CT34. All in the name of science, of course.

I rarely pocket carry my Hercules. (Slide lock version). It actually sets on my bedside table upstairs so I have a decent toolset up there. Down here, I have my big toolbox for any tool needs. Plus all my knives, saks and leatherman are all down here in drawers in the spare bedroom.

Anyhoo... the Hercules with a file, instead of saw, would be great. If I were to truly look into carrying one, I’d opt for the newer liner lock version. It has a much beefier flat head/bottle opener and works better as a pry tool.

Ideally I’d get the newer Workchamp and remove the wood saw.

 I guess I will roll with it too. I like the slide lock models more anyway - somehow they feel less clumsy and more "just right-ish' than the liner locks.

True, but they come with a considerable weight penalty. Not sure that's worth it.
