What SAKs would be eligible for Japan carry?
on: November 04, 2020, 10:12:05 PM
So Mrs Forward and myself are looking at taking a holiday to Japan in the next several years when times are better in many ways.

However looking online the knife laws are a littel unclear, so MTOers with experience living/traveling to Japan what SAKs and other tools are safe and legal to bring along for the ride?

I know 58mms, Swiss Cards, my Squirt and bladeless tools like my Style PS should be good to go, but what room do I have on more standard size SAKs and tools?

What I read was they don't allow carry of any type of blade without a reason. But, I think the Style PS is good to go.

Hello, there are some very nice knife shops in the Tokyo area in the Ginza and Akihabara districts. I have purchased many knives in Japan including a 111mm Victorinox hunter as well as some sweet customs. You should be OK with a SAK. There is a great knife magazine called "Knife" you should be able to find an issue in a bookstore or magazine stand, it's in Japanese but the pictures and ads are very interesting. One of my favorite countries to visit. If you can, travel out of the cities into the country, visit the Mt Fuji area and check out the sake distilleries.
Cheers!
