Funny how songs can bring back memories.
on: November 22, 2020, 02:32:24 PM
Songs have a power of bringing back a lot of memories/emotions be they good or bad. I was surfing the web looking for some information on Leatherman Juices when I stumbled upon Juice Newton's song "Playing with the Queen of Hearts". I played it and a rush of really good memories came back to me, and it struck me how iconic this song was for me. I looked it up and it dates to 1981 when I was summer vacationing in Blueberry Hill Campground just past the 1 mile hill west of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. That was a formative year for me. I was only 7 years old, and I didn't know it at the time, but my father was planning on moving from Cornwall Ontario to Sault Ste. Marie a few months later. That was an awesome summer, and the first time I heard the song. I can even remember it was a rainy day and I was stuck in our 19 foot trailer with a few Weird War and G.I Combat comics to keep me occupied, and the radio playing. I had my Hobo knife that my father gave me the summer before when we spent the summer in Elliot Lake, another Northern Ontario city. I was using the Hobo on a cup of chicken noodles with egg pieces in it. My dad was out in town picking up groceries, and my mother was sitting in the seat reading a novel. This was before she had a stroke which paralyzed her on her left side...so remembering her before that are always good memories. They both are long gone...but listening to that song brought a lot I had forgotten, or really thought I had...back.

Are there any songs that have left an indelible impression on you much like Playing with the Queen of Hearts did for me? I would love to hear them if you are willing to share.

My wife is like that with a lot of songs.  Different songs will trigger all different memories.

I remember my mom always playing her 8 tracks.  Did I just date myself?

When I hear pretty much anything from Earth Wind and Fire I have such fond memories.  One song in particular is Thats the way of the world.  It's both a happy place for me and sad as my mom passed at the young age of 60 from ovarian cancer.   It's a song she played over and over again.  On happy note tho, when my daughter was born 21 years ago this song popped into my head.  I don't listen to stations that play this song but from time to time I do hear the song.

I hear the song and I think about mom.  She was a freaking trip.  A real firecracker as they say.  She was one tough woman.  When kids would say their dad could whip anothers dad, I would say my mom could whip them both  :D

When I look at my daughter sometimes I get glimpses of my mom.

Your Mom sounds like an awesome woman.  What you say sounds like my Mom.  It is funny because people in my family are more worried about making my Mom mad than my Dad.  My Dad is a fairly big man and I have an Uncle that is even bigger.  My cousins would always say they were more scared of my Mom than either of the men.

Like a Rock, Bob Seger. Brings me back to a time when I was nearing high school graduation. Just saw him in Boston before COVID hit.

Anything by Bob Seger, really. And the Eagles, Linda Ronstadt, and classic Journey...Any Way You Want It from Caddyshack, Still They Ride, and of course thier bigger hits off Escape
