Don't listen to him Simon, those things only exist in Tolkien novels!

I must be living inside one of those novels then ;)

Looks like you hoard an elusive treasure, so I presume you must be Smeagol

This has to be a trick question because the only acceptable answer isn't listed as a possibility. Anything that isn't transparent orange has to be 100% wrong!

(Image removed from quote.)

Probable causes for Huntsman & Mountaineer Lites not selling like hot cakes (or Covid vaccines): Price is so high most people are inclined to get a Swisschamp instead. What do you get for the money? The world's feeblest flashlight, a stubby little Phillips and a fairly useless chisel (or the long flat screwdriver - definitely preferable to the chisel). Probably fair to say the Swisschamp offers more bang for the buck. But in a strange way, the unique tool combination of the Huntstman Lite may be just perfect for you (as the Mountaineer LIte is for me) and having that half-azzed LED may prove to be worth its weight in gold (I will never sell mine because it really has been a lifesaver, more or less, on one occasion. Kind of weird to have an emotional connection to a penknife but there ya go!)

Interesting thoughts. I disagree on the Swisschamp being an alternative to the Huntsman Lite though: 60 Euros for the SC vs 45 Euros for the Huntsman Lite, that's quite a difference. But you are right, the Huntsman Lite is more of a niche product for connoisseurs.

As to the Mountaineer Lite, I agree it would be even more interesting than the Huntsman Lite, but it has two problems: 1) it's out of production, so you have to pay a premium to get it; and 2) it was discontinued before the current gen LED was introduced, meaning that its light is indeed very feeble, unlike the Huntsman Lite's.

For the "modern" 91mm SAKs, like the CT and the Lite, I really do like the translucent scales... Red, blue, silver, orange...

There's something about the mix of traditional and modern in the translucent scales that just works for me.

:iagree: I like the translucent scales too  :tu:

Yellow, for better visibility (even in low light conditions).  But pink or light blue are also good colours to make it easier to find a dropped knife in natural surroundings.  Black is probably the worst.

Many thanks for all your input, fellow knights.

It looks as if the only thing we have proven today is that the Huntsman Lite's lack of popularity does not seem to stem from its standard scales after all. Every imaginable scale type and colour seems to have its share of dedicated fans.

With the comments in this thread in mind, I narrowed my choices down to black, white, green and yellow.

Black looks really good on the HL, maybe best, but I have so many black SAKs already that I discarded it nonetheless.

White doesn't really work in my opinion, unlike on the Spartan and the Compact. Somehow the colour seems too bland on a SAK this thick. It's difficult to describe; in any event, I wasn't sold.

Yellow and green both work ok in my opinion. It's really a question of whether you want your SAK to be discreet or eye-catching. I opted for discreet, not least because a green HL would complement my Farmer X.

Overall I am happy with the result, but truth be told I think any of the available colours would have worked (with the exception maybe of white). The only thing that really mattered was getting rid of the transculent red scales, as they gave the HL a toylike appearance which I for one just did not appreciate. What also made an important difference was switching to a red lanyard; I think they just work very well with Lite SAKs.

So behold and please share your thoughts on our little experiment.

Excellent choice. I EDC a green Cybertool.

Your SAK looks great with the red details. You could add red tweezers and a red toothpick too! Too bad a red ballpoint pen is not available.

I put green on my Climber, but didn't like it. I put it on my Explorer, and love it. Weird, or what? Blue also looks really nice.

Looks great.  The two red accents with the hunter green play off each other well.  Matching your Farmer X, is a bonus.

Thanks, Kamakiri. Do you think a different lanyard would suit the knife better?

Green seems appropriate for a Huntsman to me.  Yellow seems good for a lite.  Although, for a Huntsman Lite, how about a Translucent Green?

I don’t think so. I just mean that to my surprise, the red one works really well. The red in the clear Lite module ties it together nicely. Putting my finger over the red lanyard didn’t ‘improve’ the look. Normally, I don’t like red accessories for most things...because reds are difficult to match. The two parts are separate enough that it looks intentional in a good way.

Translucent Green might look very nice indeed, but alas I don't have such scales. That said, I am a bit sceptical of translucent scales in general given that I pocket carry my SAKs. Worn down translucent scales have a tendency of becoming quite ugly.

Thanks for elaborating. I fully agree. I think that's also why black scales work so well on Cybertools.
