Bought a whole lot - I had no choice.
on: February 13, 2021, 06:44:15 PM
An elderly man contacted me because he heard that I was collecting SAKs.
I visited him and he showed me a small box full of knives. I looked at all the knives, picked 8 pieces and told him that they interest me. But the man said he was only selling all of them together and wanted CHF 200.- (around $ 220 or € 180)

I told him that his knives were actually worth more, but most of them weren't of interest to me simply because I didn't collect them and don't like to resell. I would like to pay him 100.- just for the 8 pieces of my choice but the old man told me that he really didn't care, he just wanted the knife away and CHF 200.- was OK for him.  :dunno:

Now there is the box:  :)

And all of the content:

In my opinion, the knives in the small drawer have a collector's value. Because older, with steel or nickel silver inlay and / or in very good to new condition.

The knives on the left are normal, used models. Too good to throw away, too bad to sell. I've got way too many of them already, so I don't like buying lots like this one.  :-\

The row on the top left is IMHO cheap stuff and worthless junk.

Oh, and here are the eight SAKs that I actually wanted to buy:

Amazing purchase!  I hope you come to appreciate and adore some of the ones you weren't even after.   :salute:
I believe the man was happy to have them go to someone who appreciates them and can either grow to love them or pass them on/sell them to others who will.
Rest in peace ColoSwiss, you will always be remembered.

You Swiss people are spoiled

There is some truth in it. Do you know the saying; "what does not cost anything is not worth anything" ? Many Swiss people have received many a SAK as a gift in their professional lives. Until the 1980s, an incredible number of advertising SAKs were given away in Switzerland. That's why there are a lot of people here for whom SAKs are just boring and can hardly understand how you can collect them.

At Ricardo 9 of 10 will not send outside of Switzerland.  :dunno:

Thank you!

Yes that is a problem. I was also a Ricardo seller once and have sold many knives to the EU, USA and Canada. Unfortunately, shipping from Switzerland is slow (sometimes up to three weeks), expensive (about CHF 9.- for a letter with tracking) and involves a lot of effort (customs declaration with lots of information and you have to go to a post office during opening hours). I always pointed it out in the description, but there were still many complaints, endless discussions and negative seller ratings.  >:(
I think that's why many Ricardo sellers do not ship internationally.

That's true. In Switzerland, many pay via eBanking. Me too. It's easy and free here. I only have PayPal because many sellers on Fleabuy do not accept eBanking.

Thank you for these details.
I respect the reasons and like the Swiss for being different in those things.

The Aftermarket in Germany is not so bad, therefore it’s no problem.

Very nice haul, Sneider.  Congratulations.

Did your seller retire from Saurer, or have some other interest in the company?

Congrats on the find!  Just out of curiosity, I counted 73 knives/tools(!) and that's average out to less than 2 euro per knife/tool! :o :tu:

Great find!! Congrats!

About Custom Declarations: You could try this description when sending pocket knives and multi-tools by post: "2nd Hand Camping Equipment".

I suspected that. It’s extra nice that you got them from the original owner. I find that most of mine came through estate sales and such.

I've described MTs as "Used Camping Tool" when posting internationally with zero problems so far ....

And even if, I think there are enough SAKs for both of us. Are the 74mm your main collection area?

That is a very nice haul! Some of us would love to buy the stuff you don't want! But I'm not in a position at the moment to offer you a fair price for them, plus shipping.   :-\
