Identify!
on: February 24, 2021, 08:08:47 PM
Hello all, I received this knife as part of a lot. It's got an Elinox shield inlay and stamp as well as some very pretty blade etching. Thing is, I've never seen this knife before, I don't know of any parallels with regard to this precise tool set. It has the main blade, small blade, and saw with no openers and no back layer tools. It's pretty neat as it has the first 84mm saw I've yet had but I can't seem to figure out what this thing is. Any help in identifying this guy would be greatly appreciated!

Rit

It's an old Elinox model 1240kU from the early 1960s. Lots of people call these "Lumberjacks" as that was the name of a similar model later offered with a combo-tool instead of the pen blade (and subsequently renamed to the "Walker" a couple years ago). It's a fairly common 1960s era Elinox knife. Here's a pic from the 1957 catalog:

^Exactly.

Rit- Yours is from the very late 60’s, maybe even c.’70. That’s based off the key ring and having the angled tooth saw. Nice knife to find in an auction lot! Well done. :tu:

Thanks Kama, I figured since it was lacking the bail it'd be from the end of the 60s at the earliest. I'm pretty excited to have it, I got a couple other cool vintage knives in the lot (pioneer settler and Victoria-Hoffritz Tinker small) but I just couldn't ID this guy. Also, thanks for the info about the saw, that's another dating feature I'll look out for.

Thank you! I really appreciate the info. I think it would've been nice to have a bail (granted, it's not old enough) but it makes up in collectibility because of that etching.

If you post the Hoff Tinker— I’d like a crack at putting a date in it!

I might also have something...similar-ish. But from early-‘73:

Sure, I'll post it so you can try. I think I have an idea but I'd want to know if I'm in the right ball park or not.

Sorry to say, but it's a fake. I've sent you my address. Mail it to me so I can dispose of it.

Sweet. Really nice condition on that one koke!

...

Pictures on the ends with the tools closed might help dial in dates for either of these...but neither are likely 1973:D
