Buck 119 rescued, sort of...

Several weeks ago, while pulling my kayak out of the water, I found this Buck 119 with a broken tip laying on the bank, so I grabbed it and brought it home.   I took several hours and finally resorted to my Dremel to try and re-profile it.  I’ve taught metal working for a number of years, so sort of understand metallurgy and kept the speed of the dremel low and kept running water to cool the blade. 




I’ve got a long ways to go until I get this thing sharp and have quite a bit of steel to remove on the curve and to get a sharp point again. 

Next will be making a new belt sheath and then plotting a scheme to actually use this thing.  I’m guessing camping...since I no longer take my rifle out for a walk...

Great job CD.

I've reground several knives over the years.

Here is one Buck 119 that I took to the extreme.Not only did I regrind the blade to a 4" drop point but I also reshaped the hilt,handle and butt cap.

CD I would caution against making that point too thin.This a fault of many Buck knives and that is, the point is too thin.

The ones I reground had broken tips,just like yours.I made sure that the tips on the ones I reground had points that were twice as thick as the factory knives.

Good advice.  i just have to thin it down enough to be able to get an edge in the curved section.
