Any of you have a bunch of leatherman multitools but rarely put them to use?

I'm a relative newbie to multitools, got my first one just about a couple months ago. Now I own 5 leathermen (one of which is in the mail) at this point and so far the only ways in which i've put any of them to use is (1) opening envelopes because my style cs is located right where i open mail and (2) i had to screw back the cabinet of an appliance and it was an opportunity to put a recently arrived micra to test. (3) I had to cut open a bag of sand and found the rev conveniently waiting in my back pocket.

i do always around carry my rev around everywhere, so that's the total "usage." I don't expect to ever become a heavy user but i simply love the feel of these tools and expect the number of leathermen i own to proliferate rapidly. I've shown this tendency in other things as well -- for example, i have a boatload of various types of pens and pencils that i NEVER use but find incredibly fantastic to own.

So are there others of this sort in the leatherman world or are most of us rugged fellas who put the tools to work? :-)

There's quite a few collectors here, and also some that only buy tools they are going to use regularly. Both types are welcome, although members of the first group may have significantly lighter wallets or worn out credit cards (ask me how I know)

I am a collector first, but have a few duplicates for users. Yes. To me, it is perfectly normal to have more than you need in multi-tools. No worries, or shame there. People collect all sorts of things.

I’m in this predicament.

I’ve got around 8 Leatherman tools here and there and everywhere.

Three of them are in circulation for regular use. Three other models are sitting in the sidelines for backup. The other couple, I just haven’t gotten around to using.

Thats the trouble ... I don’t buy to collect. I buy to use. But I just don’t do enough things.

I love the engineering behind the tools and it is great to see the differences between models and even the differences between the same models at different time

We have both types here and as said above, all are welcomed

I bought to use and I did just that. Then I began to see how wonderful all the collections were so I began to buy solely to collect. As Greg says, both are more than welcome as are the many in-between who buy to use and collect. Its such a fun hobby however you go about it.

I accumulate while I try to find "it" so far I haven't found it. This works better than that,one hand opening vs fold out and foreclose,the whole spectrum of choice is out there. Rev bad handle spread/grip but a great tool set. In the multi tool world there is something for everyone,you have to experiment and readjust your needs and edc philosophy constantly,then throw in OCD.

It started as " I have one already but that new one looks good , I will get one because I can " and now I have the dreaded affliction of being an MT hoarder.
A very slippery slope indeed but great fun and then there is MTO which seems to increase the urge to purchase something new.

Once you tell yourself "I'll get myself one because I can" or "this one would be nice to have" on account of some superficial or aesthetic reason - black oxide, the way an implement opens, ever so slightly slimmer profile.... Forget it... straight down the slippery slope you go. And once you're rolling down that slope, you pick up speed.

I have 6 standard 4 keychain 1 pocket 4 sak. Its enough i know, but the constant denial of the collecting reflex is causing nausea lost sleep irritability yada yada, this must be like being a smack addict (smack-uk slang for heroin) on a comedown. I stay away from these pages usually but today i strayed and have found new MTs in the Bond Curl Bolster Ratchet extension and a rumour of an EOD Wave+. I dare not look at the Gerber SOG or Sak sections the trauma would be unbearable.
As an british person i can just about justify a Bond for its non locking blade compact dimensions and pocket clip which will slake the collecting thirst for maybe a day.
More seriously, i edc a knifeless Rebar or Charge tti(modified). I keychain either a Micra or Squirt somtimes a Dime, my Surge has become a workshop tool, my wife edcs a Juice s2. My Fuse has been heavily modified, no blade, t shank changer from ST300EOD, awl, file, wave+ plier, will soon get EOD wire cutters this mt is a support to the edc as is my Crunch. I have all the bits ratchet spanners sockets t shank blades i will ever need. The rest sit in draw waiting their turn. There, i managed to justify my collection......in my mind......Don't judge me ok......its an illness......help!

I have discovered that it is possible to reach saturation point, but it can be a lengthy (and very expensive) journey to get to that point. I suppose the next step for me will be to start "thinning the herd" but with the sheer numbers I have this will take a lot of effort and a long time.

Maybe I was never a "true" collector(hoarder) after all, for me the main enjoyment seemed to be the thrill of the hunt rather than ownership afterwards.

Leathermans, no (My Super Tool OG is basically the only one I no longer use, and my Surge needs some repair work done) Gerbers, no (all but my MP450 see regular use; and that one was retired as it was my first Gerber). SAKs I use like 4 out of 40.

I will have to try and get a pic up. Also back to the OP my toolbox is in the basement and frequently the Wave can get the job done all by itself, so even around home I am finding uses all over. That all being said I can totally just appreciate the tool even when not using it so I guess I fall in both categories hard use and hardly using.

For me...Leatherman holds a special place in my collection. My late father wore a Pulse when at home. It was his dress tool of sorts. Being a tradesman, he wore plenty of cheaper multi-tools on the job site. These normally did not last long. When he passed away, I had to clean out his bedroom and found quite a few multi-tools. I decided to start collecting multi-tools as a result. So for me, there is a bit of a spirituality behind this. When I first started collecting Leatherman, I thought I would only need a few different models and be done. That did not happen.

Yeah, I seriously have over 400 Leathermans alone. Of those, I have a few duplicates that I have as users. It is a bit of a slippery slope though. I can safely say that Leatherman is only a part of my overall collection.

My first Leatherman goes everywhere I go and it's a Super Tool. I bought it when it was just on the market and it still looks brand new. Beside that one I have around 170 other Leathermans I never use. So I call myself a collector.
A few weeks ago I found a new FREE P2 in original box and it was very cheep.
