Now I have a new flashlight that can take in alkaline AAA, NiMH, and if I’m adventurous, a 14500 Lithium. I’m fine with alkaline right now.
I’ve come to a realization why flashlights/torches can be addictive. They cost way way lower than full sized MTs or SAKs.
I realized I made a typo - the Lumintop Tool 2.0 is a AA not triple A. The set I got did not come with magnetic back end nor 14500 battery, just the defuser. I was on ‘entry level mode’ for a double A after getting a triple A fenix E01 v2, if I’m not mistaken. Well, the flashlight thing is a long story. I’m thankful that we haven’t had any power outage for quite some time already. We’re right smack center of the city so it’s usually well lit here. As for rechargables well….that’s another story. Last Dec 16 a category 4 typhoon, Rei (locally: Odette) hit the ‘middle’ islands of the Philippines bring category 4 winds with category 5 rains. Power companies are still working to restore electricity in provincial areas up to now. My line of thinking is ‘if this hit Manila, what gear would we have that would be useful?’ Can’t help compute for the cost of multiple alkaline batteries vs multiple 14500? How to recharge if there’s no power? Etc. Anyway, that’s all for another discussion
The only reason to go 14500 is if you want the additional lumens,
I would also add that the 14500 I got with mine has USB charging, which can be done from sources other than the somewhat bulky mains charger needed for NiCad or NiMH cells... in my case a car, train, laptop, powerbank and even my phone.
Those 14500 with built-in charging ports are catching my eye right now….
Where do you guys keep your diffuser? Or how do you keep it?
Where do you guys keep your diffuser?
Where do you guys keep your diffuser? Or how do you keep it?Like on the Tool AA 2.0 I try to keep it on the button end when not in use. But yeah…it’s on the button. I have to admit it’s getting more use than I planned it to.
I picked up a new light with the intent of possibility giving it to my wife’s keychain. I previously posted on the other thread that she’s more used to clicky lights rather than twisties. I’ve been carry the Lumintop Frog for a couple of days already. It’s my first ‘complicated’ interface where a couple of quick blinks might mean something or probably just nothing. I’m not sure how my wife would take to that. The beam is also not white but rather warm yellow. I would have preferred white though. All the while I thought all LED lights were white. What I like about it is that it’s small, it’s a clicky, it’s rechargeable (albeit it needs a charging base), and I’m getting the hang of the ramp up/ramp down of the beam intensity.
Thanks!Yes, it’s a new take on the GT Nano — more flood instead of more throw, is what I believe how the flashlight people describe it. I’m starting to like the ramping up/down UI as it allows me to pick the goldilocks zone of brightness. I’m also learning how to activate strobe and select thru it, though not perfectly. I’m also more comfortable in engaging the button lock without accidentally getting into the “momentary mode” of press-to-light-hold-to-keep-on. The parasitic drain hasn’t bit me yet by draining the battery when I need it most. I’m more annoyed by the flashlight blinking when hit by a particular level of impact (I can slam it on my wrist and it won’t blink but when it shakes while I take out my keys, it blinks twice)Anyway, yes I have a 10440 tube with battery on the way (from China). What made me face palm is that I should have bought the 10440 tube of the GT Nano with a flat bottom instead of the Frog’s 10440 tube which looks just like the 10180 tube. That way I can place it down on the shelf ‘like a candle’.I’m also thinking if I should get the 2x AAA long tube….for AAA batteries. My fingers aren’t used to doing more than 3 clicks so I’m having challenges in exploring all other UI options (Windows vs Narsil )I’ve been using it for a week or so and I’m liking it and yes, it does seem to need the longer tube.
