I carry the same kit all the time when not in a challenge. In a leather pocket sheath in my back pocket you will find a Swiss Champ and a Spirit. Any other knives I may carry such as the Myerchin rigging knife in the second picture are in addition to rather than instead of my usual EDC. When you find what works for you everything else is second choice and I generally don't do second choice except in challenges or a very rare occasion when I may feel like carrying something different. 1) Around the house Swiss Champ and Spirit2) Work (blue collar) Swiss Champ and Spirit3) Work (office like) Swiss Champ and Spirit4) Outdoors (hiking etc.) Swiss Champ and Spirit5) Dressy like events (wedding) Swiss Champ and Spirit.
I see that people in this forum really really like the swisschamp...I still resist to its charms... Maybe one day. I dont see a point of carrying such a larger tool, when one can carry a Swisstool or Spirit, that seem much more handy.
Well, for one multitools with locking blades are illegal to carry in various countries. Furthermore, if pliers (or a locking blade) are not a priority, the Swisschamp is a handier tool in every respect (at least in my opinion). I for one own a Leatherman Wave as well as a Vic Spirit and never really use any of them, whereas I frequently carry my Swisschamp or Cybertool Large when traveling or hiking (or at least I did in pre-Corona times). Also, the Swisschamp is relatively cheap when compared to decent pliers-based multitools.
Yes, one always forget about the legal implications. Still, Swisschamp seems so large... But I actualy never had one, so Idk. Craftsman sounds better, but its harder to find. (Or maybe Ranger with 1/4 bit adapter in the caplifter ahah)
I think the problem with the Swiss Champ is people always say it's too big for a jeans pocket, which is pretty much is. It kind of falls into the same size category as a Leatherman or Gerber multitool in regards to size, and most would never consider carrying those around in a front pant's pocket like many of us do with smaller SAK's. But because the Swiss Champ is a SAK they automatically assign it to a pants pocket and then say it's too big. Just like the Leatherman multi-tools, the Swiss Champ probably is better suited for carrying it on your belt, and not in a pocket. I just picked up a Swiss Champ for the first time and think it's best suited (for me at least) as a tool to keep on my desk for using it around the house.
