Better... pretty subjective.
Like more - Has to be the Climber. I'm a fan of classic red scales... it has the multipurpose hook and the corkscrew, both of which are essential for me... and I do use the scale tools most days, so again more useful.

For me it is definitely the Pioneer X.  I really like the more durable feel of alox and prefer the awl to the small blade.

I use to prefer the Climber simply for the scale tools.  Then I realized I just really missed the tweezers and prefer a dedicated pair (likesliver gripper or tweezerman mini) more so Pioneer X and alox it is.

I think the short answer is, “It depends…”

In terms of general urban/suburban EDC duties, the back and scale tools of the Climber give it additional utility over the Pioneer X.

If we’re talking harder and or dirtier work (farming, camping, construction, industrial, etc.), and or a situation where a replacement might be difficult or impossible to come by (backcountry trek, military deployment, etc.), then the superior durability and ease of cleaning of the Pioneer X gives it the advantage.

Definitely Alox. Tougher and better looking. And the awl! I often pair it to a Leatherman Style ps for the tweezers, mini pliers and small driver/file

You can pair a Pioneer or Farmer X with a Swisscard, like the Nailcare. Thus you get all scale tools, plus more.
Whichever SAK I use, I will eventually need to repair my nails, so scissors and a file are required.

I like both. I like the classic red scales and of all the SAKs I've owned, and that's a few now, the Climber is my favourite for tool selection.

But there is something about the Farmer, and by association the Farmer X. The thicker blade, and those aloe scales.

Get both!!

Aloe scales? They should be perfect for the skin! Where could I get a pair?

Alox awl the way  :tu:

I have little or no use for scale tools but if they did a Px/Fx with them then I'd probably find a "need"  ;)
They don't like it up 'em!

Once I got the blue transparent scales on my Climber polished up it got firmly established as a favorite, but, I have a Pioneer X incoming so we shall see how they battle it out.

You know the answer--buy both.

Despite being a fan of Alox, I will suggest the Climber. More tools, cheaper on the secondary market (as low as $10 regularly)--and of course, toothpick and tweezers. If you can get nylon scales (I rob them from used, inexpensive Ecoline models), it's not that much less durable than Alox.

A bladeless SwissCard is a good option, especially if you live in a jurisdiction that forbids concealed carry of a fixed blade (as I do).

As others have said...

Climber: more tools, easier on the wallet, more colors/customization options

Pioneer X: stouter tools, better awl (just my opinion; I know that's subjective), better suited for dirty work

It is perhaps worth noting that a Climber can house the mini screwdriver, which can be advantageous if one wears eyeglasses. The mini screwdriver would have to be added, but the additional cost is very small.

Both great tools, can't go wrong with either one.  I voted Pioneer X (one in my pocket right now) because: alox!

I can't seem to vote!  I've had Climbers for years and they are a favorite.  Recently I got a Pioneer X.  It's more robust.  I like both, that's my story and I'm sticking with it!  Here's an often used eco Climber I've had for 20 or 30 years.  I recently replaced the spring on the scissors after a few years of being broken.  Yay!

I don't drink wine much but I sometimes use it for cooking.  This is the corkscrew I usually use.  Tip: screw the corkscrew all the way in until the knife is hitting the glass.  Another little turn and the cork usually starts turning inside the glass.  Pull it out while rotating slightly.  Comes right out.

Another vote for Alox, so I'd have to say the Pioneer X.

Pioneer X for me (even though I don't yet have one, since I have my favourite Farmer X  :pommel: ). I love the more robust tools and inline awl.

I actually never really had much love for the Climber... to me it doesn't really have the charm of the 4-5 layer SAKs with some extra tools, like Explorer, Ranger, or Woodsman, nor quite all that slim, either. I think I prefer the Tinker line at 3 layers and below, anyways. I gave away my Climbers as gifts and only have a Climber Small that will likely be a donor to make a Cadet X (which Victorinox should do  :pok: ).
