Thanks!

I'm also thinking of getting a laptop instead of a desktop whenever I do upgrade. The price:performance gap has narrowed quite a bit, partially because laptop graphics card costs haven't gone up as much as desktop ones. I don't game nearly as much as I used to anyway, so I'll have to think about how much performance I really need, and how much I'm willing to pay for it.

Day 43

Signed up for the gas station MRE challenge and went to do some recon today. Brought back snacks for myself, my wife, and our daughter. With such a light bag, I'm pretty sure the weight of the Swiss Champ made the parcel hook was more trouble than it was worth, but you don't know until you try.

Day 44

Routine uses today: opened the mail, helped carry a bag of stuff, sliced an apple. Here's the Swiss Champ and Champion Plus together for comparison. Heading to "Country Knives" tomorrow. They come highly recommended, so maybe I'll find something cool to post.

Day 45

Something a little different today, a Champion Plus in the wild! I also added last year's orange Pioneer X to my collection. Debating whether I'll carry it or shelf queen it. Beautiful knife either way. Country knives was a great store, awesome selection of all kinds of knives and a fair amount of multitools. I'll post some more pics tomorrow, but I wanted to get this one up for the challenge tonight.

Day 46

Our apartment complex was giving away free bouquets to celebrate spring. The Swiss Champ helped with some trimming once we got them home to put into our vase.

Nothing too exciting for the Swiss Champ today, mail call etc. Posing here with my Victorinox Baker's Knife to help make some sourdough.

Day 48

Scissors did a little dead heading for my mom, wife used the can opener to take the shrink wrap off a first aid kid, and I used it for the shrink wrap on ice cream for milk shakes. No clue why the milk shake pic came out so small.

Day 49

Assorted light trimming and opening for the scissors. More interestingly, the tweezers helped to press the recessed button to set the time on my new CA53WF-3B. Left my EDC at my parents' where we celebrated Easter yesterday, but they're cheap enough I figured I'd pick one up in another color to use until I get back over there.

Day 50

Easy day for the Swiss Champ today. It basically didn't make it out of my pocket. So here's a picture of it in my pocket. I did get some leather scraps, so I'm hoping to take the awl out for a spin somewhere in these last 10 days.

Take it to those leather scraps! :tu: I'll be testing out a back layer awl myself in fairly short order.

Day 51

Prepping for the first camping trip of the season. We got a new folding bunk, and I cut some handles in the box to make it easier to carry. Also set up our new tent for the first time. The Swiss Champ performed admirably as a paper weight for the instructions.

Day 53

Setting camp with the Swiss Champ! Cleaned some muck out of the end of a tent pole, opened a can of baked beans, sliced a hotdog to cook in them, and sharpened a stick to cook another in the fire.

I really like carrying the Champ with a simpler lock blade or sheath knife for camp. The Champ covers most of my "just in case" needs in a platform that can sit in my pocket, and the other knife handles anything heavier than making a pointy stick.

For the challenge, I just have the Champ this time. I don't expect it to be a major problem since we're just at the KOA.

I usually pair mine up with an Opinel No 8 or 9.  I camped out at KoA  campgrounds in my first trip across the U.S. a looong time ago!

Day 54

Swiss Champ got a few cameos over in the Gas Station MRE thread. Rain came in late morning, and we wanted to adjust the rain fly a bit to make sure we stayed dry. The hook and can opener both helped with stake pulling (I prefer the can opener) but the real hero was the plyers. The slider buckles (anyone know the real name?) shipped all the way lose, and I had trouble getting a good grip on the tab to tighten them down. No problem for the plyers though. For all the smurf I give them about not being worth the weight/thickness compared to the Champion Plus, they made my life a lot easier this morning.

Day 55

Home from camping. Cut open a cardboard box and helped pull stakes again. The highlight use of the weekend (no pictures, unfortunately) was last night at the bath house. The knob on the shower was loose (I feel like it was last year too, you'd think someone would've taken care of it) making it hard to control the temp. Luckily, the screw holding it on was easily accessible, so I stepped out for a minute, grabbed the Swiss Champ, and tightened it down. Always leave camp better than you found it.

For tonight's pic, a big brother/little brother post with my Classic SD.

Opened a package today (not pictured.) Instead, we're continuing with the little/big theme from yesterday, with a pic of my nightstand Compact. I'm in the minority that was disappointed by my Compact when I got one. The combo tool is too big of a downgrade from the opener layer, and I don't think the size really lends itself to anything particularly well. If I want something small/thin/lightweight, then and Executive or Cadet offers similar or slightly better tool coverage in a smaller package. On the other hand, a 3 or 4 layer knife feels better in hand (and offers more utility) for general EDC. It got dumped on my nightstand after I tried to force myself to like it for a week or two, and has found a good home there. The pen lets me jot down notes if I need to before bed, and the the scissors and striker file see occasional use. I don't find myself opening many cans or tightening many screws in bed, so I don't mind the combo tool there.

**Day 57**

New sneakers came today, so I used the hook to snug up the laces. I was amazed by how much more comfortable it was the first time I tried it, and now it's the first thing I do with any new pair of shoes.
