My New Toy
on: March 11, 2007, 02:56:28 PM
Hello, well after a kickstart from Def here i am posting  :P

I got me a new multitool a Becker Necker (ok its a knife...but it has a bottle opener on the end so it has a tool as well, and thus is tenuously a multitool!)
Sharp, strong, and tiny! I was expecting it to be small but the size actaully surprised me. Although i can't legally carry it around with me without a good reason it should be great for when i go camping.

And quite lucky that i got it just before Camilus stopped trading. And being from the UK makes it even harder to get hold of them!

(on a side note i love the box it came in, very nice!)

I recently sold my Becker Necker and I miss it.  i was thinking just the other day that I should get another one.

It's a great knife and everyone should have one.

Your one in the for sale section was actually what spurred me into buying one. I just found this site too late!
I'll agree with the great knife comment though!

Congrats roadie!

I can't judge scale from your picture....how long is it from end to end?
In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I think it's about 8 inches or so- not a big knife, but large enough for most camp type chores.  And, it comes in a sweet kydex sheath too.

Did the handle on yours come wrapped?  Mine did, but then I got it second hand.  I was under the impression they came unwrapped from the factory.

17cms from tip to end. Blade 8cm from tip to end of cutting edge (not actual cutting edge length though)

No it didnt come wrapped so i did it with the paracord it came with, the sheath was also a little tight when i got it (but a bit of playing soon sorted that..its like you and your crunch!) have tried wrapping it in a few different ways but am waiting for some paracord to come through the post so i can try getting more on there.

Paracord is another serious addiction... consider yourself warned!

Also, make sure you check out Rotokid's prices when looking for paracord- he usually has most places beat for selection and price.

Oh i know about paracord! Getting hold of the proper stuff over here is quite tricky, does Rotokid ship internationally? Otherwise its ebay for me. Might be ordering a few different colours within the next couple of months, my last lot ran out due to making bits and bobs for people.

He does indeed ship internationally.  Being a "bloody foreigner" myself, I insist on it when discussing possibilities with new advertisers, shops etc!

You know, I thought the way you wrapped it looked awfully familiar!

 don't know what you mean!

but yes it was a copy of that, its now different, has a base layer of 2mm climbing cord (about 1.5m) and then just a simple round and round wrap with the paracord. Will be experimenting next week with different wraps.

I don't know how many times I wrapped and rewrapped mine before I decided on that pattern!

I was almost heartbroken when I saw the knife's new owner had changed it as soon as it was out of the box, but I guess that's his perogative!

Belive it or not, I haven't even used that little Becker yet..The one time I ventured into the woods here I had my new OHT...since then the stream has thawed and it's impossible to cross.  Hopefully this spring I'll order a machete of some sort and build a bridge over it.

Thats similar to how i now have it wrapped, although yours has a very complicated looking finish to it, where did you put the ends!? just tucked them back inside it?

Yea, I tied the knot on the side you see in the pic, then pushed it through to the other side so it's almost flush to the rest of the cord.
