Victorinox large scissor spring advice

Hi , I have a few Vics with large scissors and most are recently bought models. I thought I’d buy some spare scissor springs to keep just in case one ever broke. I purchased a pack of 6 from Heinnie Haynes but when they arrived I noticed while they were the correct size the tips of the springs were different. I’m wondering if they are for the older pre groove models. Please see pic , the spare spring is on the right. Is there anywhere preferably in the UK I can purchase the correct springs ? These don’t look like they will ride in the little groove very well

Still not having any luck , all the springs I order are the older style and not to newer ones for grooved scissors like the Pioneer  X

I'd be quite surprised, as the springs I got from them were the most recent groove-rider type, and that was a good 2-3 years ago...!

I’m wondering that too. I think the best thing for me to do is email Victorinox and ask them what they suggest. I wonder if the old and new springs share the same part number.

Awesome thank you , it’s the spring on the left , it’s that same as the Pioneer X model if you have one to compare.

Agh! I’ve just rummaged through my box of spares and the large quantity of spares that come with the spring change tool set, and the 1.37N supplied does not have the dimple at the end as shown in your pic, or indeed on my PXs…… I don’t really understand why not. Even the scissors on my 91mm models have that dimple, but not in the boxes of spares - they have a point hitch fits into the groove (1.37 has a rounder edge which does not) but not the dimple - seems Vic doesn’t supply that version….

I had a check too and can confirm Rizio's findings.

Seems really strange that Vic porvide an old style scissors sring - rounded tip - that went out 30 years ago!!  in their spares kit

Particularly strange as the narower pointed tip will work OK with no groove - But the wider tip does not work so well with a groove

I guess you could file the tip on the spare spring down a little to make a point.

Would also be worth sending info on this as feedback to Victorinox

That one and the spring replacement tool set which comes with “all” the springs, except for the model currently used for some reason (the 1.37N in the set would work, just not as elegantly as the one actually fitted)! If the shops in the UK are given the same, it might explain why they couldn’t supply them too….

Having been researching what spring would fit my 84mm scissors I may be able to help here.  In summary, I was quite surprised at just how many spring types there have been.  There's also scope for confusion between two versions of the spring repair kit that Victorinox have supplied.

A careful inspection of the 2008 and 2015 catalogues available at SAKwiki shows there have been two versions of 9.6100, the "Toolbox / Mounting device for scissor springs".  The A.nn57 spring codes shown below are listed for each, with different quantities (less of what is old at the time, more of what is new).

Also some of the descriptions evolve, especially (and related to this thread) for the 1.36.. large / 91mm knives. The A.3757 is for "new" (aka "current") knives in 2008, but by 2015 they are the "old" style because the "with cam" (aka groove) slot is now "new".

The disappearance of the 0.36.. springs also explains the observation by some that their (later) kit has 0.37.. (aka 0.36..) written over / removed on the compartment labels.  This does make me wonder about the correct sizing of the pins on the punch on the kits.  I think the 0.37.. punch is correct for early 0.36../1.36.. springs in the 2008 kit, but only the 1.37N will be right for both spring types in the 2015 kit.

In short I think OP above was looking for the A.3757.A spring, but was being sent A.3757.  Other posters here were also finding that latter one in their earlier spring kits, or the 4.0581 "Small spare parts box"

Here's that list of which A.nn57 springs are in which version of the 9.6100 set, with (x10), etc indicating 10 in there and the description used at the time.  The [hints] in square braces come from another Victorinox document that I found, and are very useful for untangling what new and old mean at times .  EDIT: Added my guess as to what is in each compartment of the boxes using {X.YY} notes.

All we need now is for someone to line up all 7 spring types plus tip profile so we know what is what.

As a follow up to the above and to help confirm things it's useful to compare the springs in the wooden box kits with those in the 4.0583 spare parts box, also mentioned here: https://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,21658.msg2482804.html#msg2482804.

The plastic box has all the same spring types as the earlier wooden box version.  They can be aligned by comparing the knife model prefixes 0.37.., 1.37.., 0.62.. and 0.65.. that are printed / stamped on each box.  The green labels below show where the same spring appeared in the wooden box.  The plastic box lid then has part numbers and descriptions that match what is shown above.  What the plastic box doesn't have is the springs with a cam for the latest scissors that are in the newer wood box version - and have a ".A" suffix.

One useful clarification (that wasn't as explicit in the printed catalogues but had been inferred) is the description of the A.2757 spring as being for all 84mm knives but only earlier 91mm ones: "0.37.. (1.37.. old / alt / ancien / viejo)", where when it was written "old" meant before mid-1970s.

I think it's a A.3757.A that you're after.  I'll try and take a decent pic of how the ones I have compare.  If you can pop into the Victorinox shop in London they have them in one of the later edition wooden box kits (although very mixed up - like almost all those boxes!), and also little bags of them IIRC.  But at a whopping £5 each (includes fitting ).  If you can't get there I'll send you one of what I have for you to try out.

I’m not going to be able to get to London I’m afraid but the Vic shop is definitely on my bucket list. Great research from yourself and thanks to you I now have a part number to assist me in my search. Here's that comparison / identification guide showing how a few part codes are similar but diffeent:

• A.3757.A: Fits scissors on post-1990s 91mm knives and similar. Has cam to fit groove.
• A.3757: For post-1974 91mm knives. Has rolled end and no cam.
• A.2757: Not shown, but fits pre-1974 91mm plus all 84mm.  Similar to previous with smaller eye.
• A.6557.A: For newer 74mm Executive type scissors. Similar overall size with cam, but is a little thinner.

I’ve just got round to contacting BM , let’s see what happens. It kind of takes away the joy of carrying the Pioneer X knowing if the scissors spring fails I can’t replace it.
