A thanks to everyone who participated, and to Nix for hosting. Special thanks to the unsung hero of the challenge, BPRoberts, who sent me a couple of Executives so I could participate!

Happy to help out, Farmer. If you decide you want any of the others, drop me a PM.  :hatsoff:

I also want to thank Nix. It was fun to do a challenge with my "normal" carry. I also haven't gone keychain only in a while, so it was nice to scale back a little. I missed having a larger knife, but not too much. If I get a 2 SAK hand in the Poker Face challenge, the Exec will be right back on the keychain.

I don't really have a ton of reflection beyond what I put in my Day 0 post. The Executive adds quite a bit to the already capable Classic toolset, and has slowly supplanted the (deservedly) well loved Rambler as my favorite keychain SAK. While I did have to grab a larger SAK or Leatherman a few times this month, it was always for a dedicated project. For basic day to day use at the office, running errands, or bumming around the apartment the Exec passes with flying colors.

My wife borrowed the Executive today to help with a hangnail. She was a little doubtful at first, but I said try the scissors first and then the file if you need it. One snip got the job done. No pics, because while I think every inch of her is beautiful, you all probably don't want to see her feet.

Instead, enjoy the Exec taking a well earned bath in the sonic cleaner after a hard month's work. I think I'll have one too in the regular tub later tonight.

Final Quote: You concentrate on what you are doing, to do the best job you can, to stay out of a serious situation. That’s the way the X-1 was.

Day 30
I used the Executive to cut a couple zipties off my new ice cream scoop (Christmas present).  Never too cold for ice cream

In closing, the Executive is one of the best size vs utility SAKs imho.  I do wish it had a bottle opener, but it is not that big of an issue with so many other options.  The orange peeler did prove to be more useful than expected as I experimented with using it on different tasks.  That being said I still prefer the regular (84/91/93) SAKs.

DAY 30

Was out late with the boys last night so I haven’t been to bed yet  :ahhh
Used the main blade to cut some plug tobacco for my pipe and the tip of the blade to cut some of me mates cigars. Scissors also snipped the tags off a new sweater.

This challenge has left me even more confused than when I first started ha  :D
After coming off the minichamp challenge last month I wanted to pit the executive against the minichamp. After about day 10 thought my mind was made up and that the minichamp had won the face off. However as I used the executive more and more I’ve really started to bond with it. Now I can’t say which one I like the best as each has its own things that it brings to the table.

In doing this challenge i’m really seeing how the executive could be used as a lone EDC. Now I’m very curious to take just the executive into the wilderness on my trip next month just to see how it would fare and to maybe... just possibly, unlock more of the wisdom of the great Chuck Yeager  :salute:

Thank you to Nix, awl of the challenge participants, and to awl who made this challenge happen  :hatsoff:

Have a great new year everybody!   :salute:  :salute:

Normally, I'd add a 31st pic on this day to honor the challenge.  I took this challenge last year also, so I knew what was in store for me.  Still enjoy using the Executive but my love and appreciation for my MiniChamp is greater.  The MiniChamps combo tool and dedicated screwdriver takes it over the top for me.

So, Patch has returned to his spot in my EDC bag and my MiniChamp had retired to my neck.

Happy New Year to y'all.

Nevermind, can't request a second time.

DAY 31

Had an interesting carry today using the executive as the main EDC but with the Minichamp as a backup. Used the scissors on the executive and then used the Philips driver on the minichamp. While The champ is great at driving screws I do love the file on the executive.

I'm finding this is a really great lightweight combo carry that is extremely versatile. And there's really not too much duplication in tools if you consider that the scissors and the blades are different sizes.

So far this is my favorite new combo carry in 2023  :ahhh

Have a wonderful New Year

Outstanding and an awesome combination, too.
Last year, no, make that in 2021 , during the challenge, I saw an executive and rambler teamed up together on sale by a fellow I sometimes buy from.  He just simply couldn't understand why I thought that they made a great pair.

Thanks for an interesting challenge.
I’ve been quite busy at times throughout December and haven’t been able to prioritize online presence and check in here for updates at regular intervals, but I’ve still faithfully kept the executive in my pocket every day.

I guess the outcome was very much in line with what I predicted, but that doesn’t make it any less of a success.
Rather the opposite. I’m quite impressed by how well it has taken on the typical December EDC challenges.

The size and spring tension makes it feel more similar to a 58 than the larger sizes to me, i.e. it projects a feeling of being less capable and less durable. That’s however not something that affects real use in any noticeable way. And that’s probably the reason I was so positively surprised even though I had predicted the tasks we’d run into very precisely.

It’s not staying in my pocket, but it’s January 1th. and I still carry it, so it’s made a pretty decent impression :)
Going back to the regular scheduled programming tomorrow, I know the Cadet will perform better for what I normally do. But the Executive will follow me to the office and serve there on a permanent basis (at least until next December) as my primary orange peeler and emergency grooming device for those high stakes meetings and other executive moments.

Thanks to Nix and all the participants who made this happen. And of course, a happy new year to all of you!

Dropping the whole 74 line seems weird to me. There's 4 different lines between 84 and 93mm, but only one key chain size (plus the one 65).

Happy New Year Barry - and Happy New Year Awl

Edit. Thank you Nix for organising this Challenge. 74mm is a very competent size and I'm mystified why Vic would drop it. That said I do think Wengers 65mm Pocket Tool Chest, with it's glasses screwdriver, is just a fraction more useful. If Vic had added that tool to the Executive I'd have a bucket load. Thanks everyone for your company and some great posts through the festive season  :hatsoff:

Final update.
Coffee and change of guard, as pocket duty is formally handed over to the Cadet

edit: sorry for the over saturated colors. Very bad lighting where I took the photo, so it was either this quick fix (in camera), a completely flat picture with colors completely off or spend time I don't have right now to fix it up in PS/LR. The decision wasn't very hard.

That sounds like a good combo as well. A rambler seems like a lightweight Minichamp it's definitely one I've been eyeing-

Especially an alox rambler!
