Upgrade to my Alox PTC Executive Hybrid
on: December 02, 2022, 10:11:22 PM
Hi!

It's been a while.  :D
Recently, I had the tought of beefing up my Alox PTC Executive Hybrid with the remaining tool set I kept out of the knife when I built it five years ago.

Here's the result! >:D

At first, I was not sure, if it is possible to keep all tools accessible but I went for it at anyway and disassembled the knife after five years daily EDC use. Grime explosion! :D
In the end, I had to move some tools around to keep all nicks accessible but it worked out nicely.

This thing is a monster now in the tools weight size ratio department.

I ground an edge to the normally blunt PTC awl. It's a badass zombie throat slitter now.  >:D

To access the awl hole I ground a little access groove into the inner side of the scale.

Donors:
Executive 2x: Liners, Tools, Springs
MoneyClip: Scales, Spring (no keyring)
Pocket Tool Chest: Tools

I absolutely love the double spring design of the 58 and 74mm range, it's far superior to the single spring design to me. Victornix should consider doing larger knives with this design.

Off to the next 5 years EDC!

Thanks for looking. :)

Very excellent toolset :o :like:

The Executive is my favorite SAK and size as well :tu:

I have thought hard about doing a similar mod to one but just never taken the time  Glad to see somebody else took the time :like:

This is an awesome build and fantastic EDC. Nice work.

I have also wondered why the double spring never got paired with bigger knives, it would open things up.

Great mod!

Regarding double springs on larger knives, my thought is that they avoided it due to the width of the overall tool if full size tools were used on both sides.  A double sided 91mm would be at least 44mm plus the thickness of the second spring, (current largblade to back of scale is about 22mm).  Let's say it's 50mm.  That's an almost 2in by 4in by depth of tools block of a knife!  (50 x 91mm x depth)
My Mods: 58mm Workshop, 91mm Picnicker, CyberCompact
Some Fav's: long nail file models, vintage unusual stainless
Quirk: I like the metal file more than the wood saw

I haven‘t thought of it this way. That seems very reasonable.

Awesome work crackout!  :hatsoff:

May I ask how did you peen the brass rods so perfectly?
The brass rods look almost factory- they have a somewhat consistent dome shape to them as if they were done by a machine. Very impressive! I wish my peening skills were as adept as yours.

Thanks!

I use a small mini vice to clamp down the pins prior to installing  and work on the heads. After that I sand the edges of the heads to get rid of any burrs.

After installation I only work on their other end and do basically the same. Of course, the back side is a bit harder to do because the scale can get in the way. In the end, I polish them with a Dremel.
