Don't Drink 'n Ebay
on: February 02, 2009, 06:12:31 PM
Enjoyed the Superbowl and a couple of Scotch's on Sunday afternoon.  Great game, and good time with a few friends.

Afterwards I thought I would go downstairs and see what was cooking on Ebay.  Well due a bit in part to the alchohol consumed and not paying attention to what I was reading my first Gerber full size plier the Legend 700 should be arriving soon.  :)

I was looking at the 800 series and didn't realize that a seller was advertizing a "best offer" on a new 700 series.  It was totally my fault and he accepted my offer.
So... do any of you have the 700 legend and if so how do you like it?  The only plier from Gerber I have is the Clutch and it's not even out of it's plastic wrap.  I think I will gift it to someone.  But am looking forward to carrying and using the 700.  This model is a Gerber USA unit.  Thanks in advance.

FWIW I used to EDC a 700 (the T3 edition) some years back. It's not a bad MT and they've really gotten some things right (such as outside accessible tools, OH blade, carbide insert wire cutters, nice Fiskars scissors, 1/4'' bit kit, lightweight aluminium handles). The plier head is a bit stubby, but I used to like that back then. Moreover, they're discontinued now and could probably be considered a collectible... ::)

It looks OK. But, I get suspicious when a see a Gerber with:

1) No gimmicky opening mechanism and
2) No stubby drivers

.. it just doesn't seem right.

Anyhow, I'll give you £5 if you don't like it Sean, so you can relax :D

I used to come here a lot.

I wouldn't be too upset if I were you as the 800 is a current issue product, so there will be many opportunities in the future to get one.  The 700 on the other hand has been discontinued for a while and so has a certain appeal for that reason.  Of course, that may not be much of a concern if you are a user not a collector, but if you really don't care for it I'm certain someone else here would be happy to take it off your hands.
