No love for GEC?
on: March 06, 2023, 03:27:56 PM
There doesn’t seem to be a GEC knives thread here?

Seems like with all the Trad knives loving folks here that they would be more popular.

Is it because it seems like they are impossible to you know, actually buy?

I think there are only a few of us here on the forum that have GEC's so that may be why. Not impossible to buy just takes some effort if you don't want to pay secondary prices. There are plenty for sale on eBay .

I like my modest collection, particularly the fixie but they’ve become way too difficult to get here in Australia, basically impossible

I can only order from DLT in the US and whenever a new batch is announced it’s in the middle of the night here so by the time I check they’re all gone

I have a couple GECs.  I have a fixed blade that I really like.  I also very much like my Pemberton.  They can take some work to get and forget the second hand market unless someone is not looking to double or more their money.

I have seen some "less" popular ones for sale with a fair mark up.  I've also come across a few that I thought were fair even with a $50 - $75 dollar mark up.

I absolutely love my 1 GEC and 2 Cripple Creek made by GEC.

I think the main reason you do not see lots of GECs post here is because they are a relatively new, small production, US based company.

Comlanies like Camillius, Schrade, Queen, Case, etc have been around several decades, when Traditional knives were at their peak popularity, and with larger scale production.  Many of those knives are still around and easy to acquire for less than a GEC.

Last night at 8:00PM EDT was a release, 3 models of the #87 iirc.   I wanted the Brazilian Cherry, and had two sites questions to secure, logged in for select and purchase. At 8:01PM EDT, NO STOCK and Out of Stock on respective sites. Was able to apply one to each cart, but by time payment was applied awl stock was gone.   ???

Must not have been in the cards🙃

Sorry you missed out.

FWIW, all the GECs I have (not a particularly large collection), I’ve fished out of the ‘bay.  They SOMETIMES go for less than astronomical prices on the secondary market, especially if you can be patient and not too picky about what model you get.

I have had no luck either. I am always 2 hours too late.

This is the approach that I have settled on.
