Victorinox Soldier ‘06 sent to service center in CT
on: February 04, 2009, 01:34:44 AM
Anyone tell me what their turnaround time is. Knife went back because blade would hang up when closed by 1/8". Cleaned it 100% and it did not help, so it took the ride north to CT.
Why do I carry a 45 ?
Because they don't make a 46 !

It will take about 3-4 weeks.. I have sent in numerous things; and they replace the Swisstools, but repair the SAKs; and it takes time!

I have done it twice, once in 1986 (an old Spartan someone gave me, they replaced the handles); and again in 2006.  Now, in 2006, I sent my wife's Deluxe Tinker in.  The handles were melted and a huge chunk broken off (IF only then I knew about replacing handles, how easy it is!!).  I got a package back a few weeks later.  Was it the Deluxe Tinker?  NO!!  It was a BRAND NEW pre 1987 Champion!!!  That went straight to the collector's set.  I got my wife an EVO-16 at Cabellas to replace it (it had more of the tools she wanted, anyways).

SO, who knows what will happen.  Yes, I did send a detailed letter of what to do, too.  But for some reason, got something different.

What an odd thing to get back! It's not like they are even similar.  Still a good score though.  :tu:

I have only good things to say about both company's service. Victorinox even called me once to ask which color I wanted the new scales to be since the old colored one was discontinued. Very personal service. The only time I sent anything in to Wenger they just sent new products in replacement. Victorinox has repaired what I have sent in. The last time I sent anything in it took Victorinox about 4-6 weeks I think.

Did they acknowledge receipt of your Soldier? I usually always got an e-mail response when it first showed up and they processed a repair order for the item.

I will say this, once I had a repair that took an excessive amount of time for them to complete and I never was given an excuse or reason why. I think I had sent the knife in around May 15 and got it back around October of one year but that was my first ever repair and it has never taken that long again.

You can and maybe should give the Service Center a call and ask about the status of your repair.  :tu:

Maybe you give them a call? I called the Canadian warranty dept. once, and they gave me an ETA for my item within a few minutes.

FWIW, they replaced my SAK vs. repairing it.

Nay, they fix what is broken and replace what is defective. I've sent in an old, virtually disemboweled Atlas and got a brand new one (still black 8)) in return.

Well, I have sent in 10 SAKs to the US Warranty department and they've only one replaced a part.. They don't repair SwissTool's either; they just replace them.. Another downfall to having a riveted construction; but a plus to the tool owner!
