Hope everybody in the northeast makes out okay through Hurricane Lee..
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

It appears to be hitting us harder than anticipated.  So far we are okay, but every neighborhood around us has lost power.

I'm expecting we willgo out soon too, but so far so good.  It's lasted long enough for breakfast and some dishes.

We are supposed to be at the peak of the storm around 3pm Atlantic time (GMT-4), and it should continue into tomorrow.  It's a big damn storm.

Just to add to this thread....

We rarely have a white Christmas here, with most of the snow coming between January and March, but we got just over a foot of snow in 12 hours.

Yesterday Megan and I were hanging Christmas lights and the grass was still green.

These pics were taken about 24 hours apart.  I'd have taken pics sooner, but I spent much of the day shoveling and cleaning large piles of snow off the cars.

Oh, and there is probably more coming in the next 24 hours or so.

We are headed back to Halifax today, after having spent the long weekend in New Brunswick.

Yesterday I got an alert from the city of Halifax saying that there has been a problem with the water system and we are under advisement to boil all water before use.

Naturally all bottles water in the city has been bought up so we are picking some up before we get back to the city.  Megan has grabbed a bunch of one gallon jugs.

Even in a city you should always be prepared.  Our water is gravity fed so there will always be water, but the quality of it can always falter.

Still, it beats being on fire.  Thankfully we have had a decent mix of rain and sun this year (so far) so fire is a less distinct possibility this year, but we still have lots of time for more flooding!   :ahhh

Oh man!  That's never good.

Ever since Snowpocalypse here in Texas, we keep water reserves, and paper goods reserves on shelves in the garage.  We also keep enough canned goods in the pantry to last us two weeks just in case.
May the best of your past, be the worst of your future.

Even in a city you should always be prepared.
:iagree: You could sneeze on some of the water pipes around here and watch them burst. Though the city is usually pretty good about fixing them in a timely manner, the water has to be shut off for the duration. After our latest rain, I thought another one burst, so now I have a small surplus of filtered water ready to go.

The remains of Hurricane Beryl blew through the far end of my province yesterday.  It didn't last more than a few hours, but heavy rainfall caused flash flooding that has killed at least one child in an amazingly horrific manner.

Oddly enough, Megan and I had a cottage reserved for this weekend in that area, and luckily there's no significant damage to that.

I'm writing this from the living room of said cottage now.  For those keeping track, it is the same one from this thread, and this is the third or fourth time we've been here:

We got about the same on Wednesday, but no fatalities insofar as I'm aware. A shame that a young life was lost.

Some photos from Hall's Harbour, not far from where we are staying and where we often go for lunch when we are here.

That's a fairly new bridge (or was) and the blue building on the left is where we buy souvenirs and eat lunch and/or get ice cream.  We usually park on the right side and walk over.

I guess we won't be doing that on this trip.

I am bringing this back up again as we are once again having a very, very dry season, and the area that burned near Halifax is once again on fire.

So far it appears to be contained, but as things are so dry here there is still a lot of potential for things to go badly.

Or for other fires to start.

The area on fire is one of the places where Megan and I used to always go to play in the woods.  Most of our shooting adventures were out that way.

Last week's fire was contained quickly enough, thankfully.

Unfortunately today three fires have broken out on the outskirts of the city, and we are currently listening to the emergency services scanner to keep up to date.

Water bombers from the next province over, which is also burning, have just arrived.

A major shopping and business district in the city has been closed down and evacuated, and so have a number of residences in the area.

I have several coworkers that live in or near the affected areas and I have encouraged them all to check in and find out if they are being evacuated or not.  If they aren't, I have told them to pack Go Bags with clothing, medications and any pet needs they may have, have carriers ready to go (again if they have pets) and be prepared to leave with little to no notice.

During the fires that spawned this thread in the first place the fire was moving so fast that one of the local radio hosts was told to evacuate, they got to the end of their street and decided to go back quickly for something only to see their house was now engulfed in flames.

All within minutes.

I hope the fire crews manage to get a handle on these fires quickly.
