Executive mod question
on: October 15, 2023, 07:07:30 PM
I have been trying to mod an Executive to add a 58mm combo tool, but I'm stymied on how to get the tools to fit. The combo tool works opposite the main blade, but I can't figure out a way to fit the other tools in. If I put the scissors opposite the file and orange peeler the two combined springs are just a bit thicker than the scissor spring. The difference is enough to mess up the action when opening and closing the tools, but it's not enough to add a spacer. Has anyone done such a mod or seen one done? I tried to search here without any luck. Also tried Reddit, as I think I saw one once, but no luck searching there either.

I would try in the Modders section of the Forum.  You might get a faster answer there.

I sure am glad that Barry replied to your question.  It bothers me a little when nobody says anything.  I was going to tell you all about the tool spacing, and tolerances.  The short comings of various spring values and proper fitting of the combo thingy.  But Barry saved me the trouble.
Naturally I would have had to make up everything, because I don't know any of the answers to your questions.  That wouldn't have stopped me from answering though.  I never has so far.  Some of the modders here know about everything.  Best wishes.  Gary (IMR)

Hey there, just saw this post. Easiest way to place a 58 mm combo tool into an executive is to place the combo tool and scissors on the same side. Have the large and small blades opposite the scissors. Place the file (on outer edge) and orange peeler (in the middle) opposite of the combo tool. Take a look at link below and let me know if you have any questions. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.

I've done a similar mod (with a 65mm combo tool) and I used slim washers (can't remember if they were 0.1 or 0.2 mm) to compensate for the thickness difference between one wide spring and two narrow springs.

Well, I've decided to give up on this idea entirely. For one thing, there's something about the pins on a 74mm. I've modded 91, 84, and 58 mm knives without a problem, but on a 74 the pins bend with even light taps with a 4oz hammer. I assembled the mod today but nothing lines up right. Two tools on the same pin are too tight and too loose. The scales won't fit. I mod knives as a relaxing hobby and the 25 times I've tried to make this work have been the complete opposite of relaxing. Thank you for the advice but this is a knife that isn't meant to be.

On to the next project...
