Every time I think I've seen everything...
on: June 23, 2024, 12:27:52 AM
I needed to replace the headlight bulb in Megan's Volvo today.

I know that Volvo likes to do things differently than, well, everyone else, and I expect oddities when doing Volvo things.

I couldn't figure this one.

I had to search YouTube.

I don't think I would have believed it.

The headlight housing is held in with tent pegs.

Tent pegs.

Holding in a headlight housing.

No screws, no clips, no fasteners of any kind.

Just tent pegs.

I thought that was SAAB. They had parking brakes that operated on the front wheels, after all.

Now, how do those tent stake things not rattle themselves loose when you hit a big enough rock, bump, pothole, or whatever?

Probably held firmly in place by meatballs or something.

I mean, I'd expect it to be a torsion bar or something, but then I wouldn't have expected tent pegs in the first place.

Could be really handy if you're short a tent peg while camping...

Seems pretty sensible - accessible from the top, no loose nuts/screws to lose, just overcome the spring tension of whatever it holding them in and slide...

My toyota is fairly simple - but I've had Fords and Holdens that you had to disassemble the entire car from the rear in order to change a high beam....

I never said it didn't make sense.

It's just weird.

What is even more odd is this is a car company that had wipers for their headlights at one point..
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

I might be crazy but it's kept me from going insane- Waylon Jennings

This one has sprayers for the front headlights.

No wipers, but when you wash the windshield, the little sprayers fire off a second later.
