Since 2001 I’ve had this briefcase style toolbox for my portable tool needs. I got it when I had a job doing field service at the time and have kept it handy ever since. It packs a lot of capability into a relatively easy to carry package.
Inside I had put together a 1/4” socket set and some smaller wrenches in a kit. For many years I had it in a repurposed plastic container, but it never really fit well, basically it was like Tetris and there was only one way it could be arranged and allow the lid to close. Plus it was finally wearing out.
I’d looked occasionally to replace the socket case with another, primarily looking at a metal box of some kind, but the spot it needed to fit was a very specific size and I couldn’t find anything that would work.
Fast forward to last week and I came across a Etsy shop called Katahdin Packs out of New Jersey (I think) that made reasonably priced zipper pouches and would do a custom size. After a couple of messages to the owner, I had a custom sized pouch on its way.
It arrived a few days ago, but I was out of town. Finally got a home today. As expected it is high quality and the size is perfect. I think it was well worth the $20 (shipping included) price.
It is a heavy weight waxed canvas with a #8 (I think) YKK zipper. Inside seams are reinforced. Very heavy duty.
Pictures are of the tool box outside and interior. Then a pic with the bottom panel lifted up and the socket set is in the upper left under the crimpers and knipex cutters.
