Price of ammunition is wow!

I was looking around at my local Peavey Mart which used to be TSC when I spied their locked ammunition section. I did a double take and had to take a photo.

OMG! The last time I bought one, which I still have full by the way, was 80 Canadian dollars.

If that $229 is Canadian, that translates to $165 U.S.  Cabela's has the same bucket for $116 U.S., which is $160 Canadian.

So your price is $69 Canadian more than it is at Cabela's in the U.S.

I can get 2250 rounds of the same ammo for $142 U.S. shipped (targetsportsusa.com), which is $165 Canadian.

My brain hurts.  But yeah your $229 Canadian price is pretty stiff.

I can get 2250 rounds of the same ammo for $142 U.S. shipped.

That's about $0.064 per round. I seem to remember when I started shooting, you could get a brick of .22 ammo (500 rounds) for $10, which is $0.02 per round. Damn inflation (and other things I won't get into here).

Yuck. Ammo prices have been terrible since 2020.

3-4cpr 22lr, 16-17cpr 9mm brass, 29-30cpr 5.56 brass, and 18cpr 7.62x39. This is the ballpark of where the good deals were in 2019.

Yeah, ammunition prices are indeed getting scary.  I went to buy some .308 last month and, while I can't recall what the price ws exactly, I do recall it being a lot more than it was.   

I have lots of .22 at the moment, but I'll be sure to shop around when it's time to stock up again.

All the shooting newsletters in my email everyday have been saying ammo is coming down again.  I'm not seeing it myself yet.  Try https://ammoseek.com/ They search the web for the best prices, then you go to the recommended seller's site to place your order directly with the seller.  Great time saver.

If the price does appear to bottom out, find your loose coins in couch cushions and buy as much ammo as you can.  Properly stored, it will last longer than you do, and you will be muchly happy to have it during times of social unrest or other events that dry up the supply.

In the US, prices last bottomed out in 2018-19 it seems like. Depending on the result of 2024 elections in the US, it could be 2026-2027. Maybe, who knows.

I haven't shot anything since Covid struck. I am well stocked in the ammunition department. When I was actively shooting, i would  buy what I shot and then a little more. That was a good strategy.
