That's exactly the Leatherman Bond.  It's incredible and I have a ton of them stuffed in bags and cars everywhere.
No exactly :)
Leatherman Bond doesn't have scissors and long/narrow screwdriver, on the other hand PST II doesn't have  Awl/Reamer.

I was referring to the Bond as being a modern replacement to a PST, not the PST II which has the scissors.

Still no long/narrow screwdriver on the "Bond".

As designed, it is a "modern" replacement.  I think you're right though, you need the original.  For me, the toolset and price point is phenomenal and an ideal update to the PST.

I see the Malloy Special is apparently so unpopular that LM is offering 1,500 insider points if you buy it.   I guess you  will have that when you charge more for a skinner than the 40th anniversary tool with the same blade steel.

Not to dispute the point that the Malloy probably isn’t selling, but 1500 insider points is the normal amount you’d get for a $300 item. You can check any other tool that isn’t running a special promotion: the formula is 5x the rounded dollar cost.

A side question: what are leatherman insider points for?

There are 3 levels when you sign up for Insider. You get certain perks such as gifts, discounts, an extended 40 year warranty, etc, the higher you go. They just sent me a real nice mug that I posted in the coffee thread. It came with 3 real nice LM decals, as well.

Thanks for your answer  :tu: that's very cool to know. The discounts and extended 40 years warranty sounds very appealing right there

Isn't the bond wider? One of the amazing things about the PST is that it's almost weightless and disappears into a pouch, bag, etc. It is probably as small as can be without losing features. From pictures it appears the Bond is quite a bit wider. Lots of us carried and used PST for decades and were perfectly happy with them.

The Bond may be great, but it can't be called the PST III if it's bigger.

Ok, I am about to speak sacrilege on a Leatherman forum...  I like the PST too, but 99% of the love the PST receives now is just nostalgia.  Objectively, there are much better multitools available today.  The only feature the PST has that can compete with current tools is  it's compact size / portability, but there are still other tools that are just as light/portable if not more.   :pommel:

100% agree with this. The tool was revolutionary, but the march of progress continues and everything it does has been done better in the years since, with the lone exception of "nostalgic vibes".

I still do carry old schools often enough and I myself still have a place for them alongside the newer tools but I do carry a Charge more than anything else still  :D

Unsure if this is a Garage sales thing, or just a limited edition run of the Arc. No hints on refinements or revised tool implements either.

Really doubt it's a Garage thing, not while the Malloy blade is still up for sale. In my dream world it would basically be a tweaked Arc with a couple of the features it's missing from the Garage 005, specifically the spring-action pliers and Cerakote on the handles. My guess is that it's probably just an Arc in Black Oxide, though.

I wish    My bet it that it has an all black handle with champagne colored pocket clip and blade.  Or the blade will be black too.  The rest of the tools will remain SS.

Looks like you may he right. The blade looks champagne but the tools may be black too.

I use the ARC a lot, and I don't think they can add any coating to the tools without negatively affecting the functionality.  It needs the smooth tools so they can slide across each other easily.  A guy can still wish though

Commander Rich, I admire your fidelity to the Garage series.  Do you own every one of them?   :salute:

I do   I also fully admit that I wouldn't have purchased most of them if I wasn't a collector.  I would have used the #002 (Darkside Charge) before the ARC came out (but not after), and I would definitely use the #004 (Europe75).  The rest, if they were just tools and I wasn't a collector, I wouldn't have bothered.
