Fallout collectable.
on: August 10, 2024, 01:19:08 PM
This is insane. There are a few game franchises I really like such as Borderlands, Far Cry, and Fallout. The last one I really liked...that is until they came out with Fallout 76 which soured me on the franchise a little. Anyways, Fallout is one of the only game franchises that I will actually go for some of their merchandise. I have a Fallout Mini Nuke in my ammo locker that came with all the games right up to Fallout Vegas. I also have all the newer games including the Fallout 3 Bobble Head that came with the game. Eight years ago, when Fallout 4 came out, I really wanted the Pip-Boy Deluxe edition because what came with it even makes the Mini Nuke look less stellar. The Fallout 4 PIP-BOY 3000 MK IV is a collectable that you could insert a smart phone into, and along with the Application, use it in game. I never wanted it for that purpose as it is bulky as all get out, but I did want to add one to my collection of Fallout things. Well, I couldn't find one. Enter today as my eye was automatically drawn to the top of one of my local pawn shop's tall display cases. I spied the box and got a little excited. I approached and took it down and looked inside, and there it was, the collectable I have looked high and low all those years ago minus the game title...but I already had that.

Everything works, and it included everything but the game. It will make a nice display piece.

With the device opened, this is where you can replace the battery and insert your phone via a set of foam adaptors dependin on your phone. Designed for Samsung Galaxy 4 sized phones, will not accept large phones. I also hear the app is hard to find online anymore. I did not buy it for that. As a static display, it looks great.

And my Fallout 3 Bobble Head.

Funny that you should post this now, as I am currently printing a Fallout Yes/No coin.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1136428

I don't recall having played any of the games, but I did greatly enjoy the Fallout series on Prime, and I was thinking about printing my own Pip Boy, as it seems like the ultimate EDC wearable.   :D

I see only one Fallout game is available on Android- have you played Fallout Shelter?  Is it any good?

I don't think it's the same style of game.

Think I have most of the PC games but never got into them, by the time I started playing them I discovered they're the type of fps that makes me feel ill after playing for some time.

There's been plenty of free giveaways for the older games.

Agreed. Fallout Shelter is not the same at all. If I remember correctly, it is more of a shelter building game with a lot of micro management. It was fun but nothing on the PC games. Nice coin.  :tu:

Yeah I am seeing that about the Fallout Shelter game.  It's not that exciting at all.   :dunno:

I'll post pics of the finished coin tomorrow- it's pretty dark here now.

Fallout was never supposed to be an FPS, it was supposed to be an RPG, a rare one with sometimes all-bad choices you had to make and complex moral positions....but it got more FPS-y as time went on, and by the time FO4 came along, the choices hardly mattered and it was just an FPS/Gear collecting game.

Yeah, oddly it's not all fps that have that effect on me. Maybe had I gotten into it at an earlier time.

I loved system shock 2 and got a similar vibe on what I did play. And many others I put endless hours in such as S.t.a.l.k.e.r and most recently 7 days to die.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyle is a special game to me. Came out in 2007 when my father was battling cancer. It was a bit of escapism in seeing how much detail the game developers put into their game with lots of photo research on Chernobyl. I always found that part fascinating,

I also got the sequels but they don't draw me back in like the original did.

You can overcome the weight limit by putting items on a body and dragging it around (slow but effective way to get credits reselling items) as long as you move the items to a fixed box before changing zones.

I love the first FallOut PC games. The atmosphere and story is incredible. It's a really immersive experience. I spent hours and hours on it. Wish they had made a better version of the PIP Boy, that could work without needing a phone.

Look for some mods in YouTube, there are some very cool versions there.

Lots of good stuff. I plan on keeping this one stock. Just happy to get one when I wasn't even looking for one. When I was looking for one, I couldn't get one...go figure. :D

After way too long I have discovered I do indeed have all the Fallout games, duplicated on several platforms (GOG/Epic/Steam), there was some doubt in my mind about 76, because it didn't show up in my Playnite game library manager even though I thought I had all the platforms integrated, and today while  redeeming the Prime Gaming giveaway for Doom Eternal (via MS store) I discovered where I had Fallout 76...
