What did I buy??? BO Gerber Model ???
on: February 14, 2009, 10:30:25 PM
I just picked up this beater BO Gerber multi (model ???) and I'm sure I saved it from the junk heap.  :D  She really only needs a good cleaning and I will put her to work. What model Gerber is this?  Thanks in advance for your help...

Coming from my inexperience with Gerbers :P

It looks like maybe a Gerber MP600...but it looks like to be in a EOD config...with that spike that resembles the SOG C4 Spike and Blasting cap crimpers

Don't quote what I said....I could be wrong(probably am)

Pretty sure it's one of the MP600 variants GG - but best if Bob or someone confirms it.
I used to come here a lot.

Do you have some more info on it? What makes it special?  I'm giving it a good cleaning right now.  :tu:

Things that set it apart from a "normal" MP600:
- The plier head with its blasting cap crimper
- The saw blade adaptor is black
- C4 spike

Apart from that its not "special" per se but i don't think it was produced in huge quantities :)

I could be wrong but i think that your one also looks like it has been back to the Gerber factory for repair (the black spot on the bend in the handle, could be similar to the cross dunc found on one of his he sent in?)

The DET model is still listed on Gerber's site. It can be purchased seperately, or as part of their Explosive Ordnance Disposal kit.

(ps ~ there are a few used ones on eBay right now)

Good job GG.  :tu:

Thanks!    It's amazing how much better a multi can look with a good cleaning. The only hard part was getting the paint out of the grooves. My guess is the last owner was a painter and had no idea what this tool is. His loss, my gain....  :D
