Victorinox 111mm - No keyring?
on: March 26, 2025, 05:10:23 AM
G'Day,

Has anyone removed the keyring attachment on a Victorinox 111mm knife? If so, please post a few pics and how you did it.

I have done it on 93mm Alox knives without any issues. The 111mm looks a little more to file and sand.

The search function did not return any results, hence the question.

Cheers, Pete

I guess nobody ever has, judging from the huge response.  I don't have a 111mm.  I have removed several key ring nubs.  Victorinox 91mm and Wengers.  I always used an emery cut-off disk on a Moto tool.  Then I smoothed the carnage down with a grinding disc.  It would take a while with files.  A bench grinder would work, but there is a bigger chance of messing things up or getting the springs on the SAK too hot.
I would advise anyone doing this to tape off the area around the nub.  Cuts down on the stray marks and keeps metal dust out of the works.  If you use a Moto tool, a face shield or safety glasses are a must.  Masking surrounding surfaces and removing scales first are a good idea with a bench grinder.  Grind a little.  Let it cool.
Maybe not the information you wanted to hear.  Best wishes.  G

I enjoyed seeing your good work.  You know, there is something to be said for the old way of putting a bail through a hollow rivet like the old Soldiers.  I carry a 108mm GAK.  Just a hole through the handle gets the job done if you need a lanyard without gouging your hand at all.  Best wishes.  Gary
