Need help identifying a knife maker Mark please
on: April 23, 2025, 01:26:14 PM
Hello gentlemen, I am new to the forms. My name is Mark. I'm an antique deodor in Connecticut. I picked up this knife a few years back and it's been sitting in my collection and I'm just learning about SAK since they always come across them but don't know much about them. The knife pictured has blades that are marked Roster  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]    [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]  fi. The main blade has what looks like two people in Dutch dress a male or female and below it sologen. I can't find the maker Mark in any of my books. Does anyone have any ideas as to the maker? The knife looks to be World War II, vintage or earlier. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Picture of other side! Please….

Is there an emblem on that side of on the scales?

I am learning as well.

Sologen could be a manufacture/factory.  Maybe a copy of the Swiss made SOLIDER.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Solingen.  Cutlery center in Germany.  Could the other marking be Rostfrei?  Stainless steel in English.  Best wishes. G

I've seen it before here, but can't remember what it means.

Solingen is just the place in Germany known for knife making, similar to Sheffield in the UK.

I think it is the Hansel and Gretel trademark for F.W. Engels.  Probably better known for razors and scissors.  Friedrich Wilhelm Engels had a shop in New York City that sold Solingen made cutlery.  Evidently went out of business about 1943.  Best wishes.  G

Welcome aboard! As others have said, Solingen is the main cutlery manufacturing city in Germany. I believe that older Solingen knives are generally of good quality. My guess is that it's a copy of an early SAK.
