British Military Issue Leatherman PST.
on: May 02, 2025, 02:59:21 AM
Hi all,

I recently added this interesting PST to my now growing collection! But as well as interesting, I'm hoping that someone here could also help me.

This is a British military issue PST dating to 1993 (0693), something I haven't seen before, even here in the UK. Engraved on the side is the latter part of the Nato stock number, arrow (British government ownership mark) and year of issue. After a little bit of research, I found out that this was issued for the Royal Marines, and from what I can understand, PST's with British military markings like this were only on 1990 and 1993 produced tools. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Pretty neat, and is also my earliest made Leatherman (so far!). Has anyone else seen or have one like this?

Unfortunately, the tip of the blade has been snapped off. Does anyone know where I could get a replacement blade, or if anyone here in the forums might have one spare please? I have managed to unscrew the bolt without damage, so I can do the replacement myself, but I can't seem to find any spare blades. It would be really cool to fix this if I can. Any help would be greatly appreciated.  :tu:

Many thanks!

Best regards,

Simon

Neat find! :tu: I don't recall having seen photos of another. As for the busted blade tip, you may be in for an uphill battle given the shenanigans Royal Mail has been pulling lately. (I'm usually happy to help international MTo'ers with things that an eBay seller will only ship to the States, but shipping via common carrier is hideously expensive). Your best bet may be to seek out one that's within an easy drive of your city. And you'll need a wrench to remove the knurled cap on the pivot. Once you have those two things, setting that PST right should be pretty straightforward. Good luck with it!

:iagree: I had to replace a blade on a 94 model early on and it ends up being easier to just track down a similar year PST to make the swap

Great find on the military issue PST.  I didn't even know it existed.
Would pair nicely with my Vertex...I'll be on the lookout for one!  :tu:

Thanks guys for responses!
It's certainly interesting, it does seem like a fairly 'rare' variation. I'll continue to keep an eye out for a blade, and ask around too, I think it's well worth fixing with it's rarity. I saw about four spare blades for sale on Ebay about 6 months ago, only as I was browsing though, and now that I need one there isn't any...  ::)

Nice watch, would certainly make a good pairing! I collect military items (mainly WW2), so a military Leatherman brought two interests together. :)

Many thanks indeed,

Best regards,

Simon

   That actually means, FoBe is on the hunt!  Will not surprise me if she locates a British issued PST within a few months.

On another note, I suggest two options, leave yours as is,  broken blade or not, it is a GEM!

Or, reshape the blade, grinding from the back down to the tip.  Shaping like a Sheepsfoot or a reverse tanto, will maintain your cutting edge length and increases its uniqueness. And return functionality.   At least until a blade can be found.

If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Hi all,

I emailed Leatherman about a replacement blade, but unfortunately it isn’t something that is possible. Being in the UK, it just makes things that little bit harder!

I have taken it apart (I’ve currently loosely put it back together ‘for now’), so it would be really straightforward for me to swap out the blade myself. I’m not going to give up the search for a blade (I kind of enjoy the search for this sort of thing... lol), as I think it’s well worth making the effort for a seemingly rare tool,
Does any members have a PST blade, or ‘donor’ PST tool that someone would be willing to send UK bound? Would of course be willing to pay something towards it. Many thanks. :)

Yeah, I’m certainly not disappointed with it, it’s super cool despite it being slightly broken! I had thought of reshaping it slightly, will keep that idea in mind though!  :tu:

Many thanks,

Best regards,

Simon

PST parts come up on EBay and Etsy on occasion. Just keep checking there.

Congratulations.  That is a very, very rare PST.   :tu: :tu: :tu: :hatsoff:

I alo have one, and until now it was the only one I had ever seen.  Mine is marked "786-5369 ^ 1992" (lightly stamped on the handle). I obtained it in trade with a friend who had attended a navy divers course at Portsmouth UK (working on underwater explosives).  Yours is in way better condition than mine ( I think it had been left wet from salt water).

Good luck with finding a replacement knife blade.

If you can't find a replacement, looks like a fine candidate to file into a spey or sheepsfoot. It's broken anyway, might as well have some fun and "customize" a bit

Nice and rare PST! I’d say if you need the blade you should buy donor PST on eBay for $30 or less. If you have problem with shipping to UK try to ask in FB Leatherman UK group https://m.facebook.com/groups/514035628935964/?ref=share
