My Current EDC Setup – Feedback Welcome!
on: May 05, 2025, 04:15:17 PM
Hey everyone,

I've been lurking here for a bit and finally decided to share my current EDC (Everyday Carry) setup. I’m always tweaking things based on what I use most, so I’d love to hear your thoughts or suggestions!

Here’s what I’m carrying lately:

🔹 Multitool: Leatherman Wave+ – This has been my go-to for a while now. Love the outside-accessible blades and the bit driver comes in handy all the time.
🔹 Knife: Spyderco Para 3 – Lightweight, sharp, and fits perfectly in the pocket.
🔹 Flashlight: Olight i3T EOS – Compact and reliable with just enough brightness for everyday use.
🔹 Pen: Fisher Space Pen – Writes in all conditions and fits easily in a pocket organizer.
🔹 Wallet: Ridge Wallet (Aluminum) – Took a bit to get used to, but I really like the minimalist design now.
🔹 Watch: G-Shock DW5600 – Tough as nails and no frills.
🔹 Keys: KeySmart organizer with a small pry tool and a Nite Ize S-Biner.

Optional carry depending on the day:
🧰 Pocket Organizer: Maxpedition Micro – Holds the essentials when I’m out for longer or need more gear.

I’d love to know:

What are your favorite EDC items?

Any suggestions on improving my loadout?

Do you think anything here is redundant?

Looking forward to hearing what you all carry and recommend!

Stay safe and sharp,

Stay safe and sharp,

Hi,

I am fairly new here too and/but I take the opportunity to say welcome anyway.

You have got fine stuff all around.

My take on EDC is the same as have been discussed earlier, about multitools/tools, in general - in line with "there is no perfect multitool". I extend this to - there is no perfect EDC. BUT thinking about how to get close for your personal needs is a very nice and entertaining pastime. Maybe more entertaining than the EDC itself...  :)

My personal "EDC-levels" are more "DC" as Every does not apply on/to my life. My DC ranges from mini to zombie apocalyps. Divided in mini, midi, maxi, tech grab bag and - ZombieA.

The ZA is just for fun and tongue in cheek - I am not in the prepper corner.

Here is mini and tech grab bag. Midi and maxi are of course one step up each.

Mini - a day at the office

Tech grab bag - a day when one can expect serious tinkering - but does not pack the real singular task speciality tools.

Welcome aboard!

Favorite EDC items?  It’s so hard to narrow it down, but if I had to pick a few favorites, I suppose it would be:

SAKs - So small but so useful; such variety, inexpensive but high quality

PWII - Sadly discontinued, but a great little OPMT with pry tip, wrench, and rulers

Thoughts on your loadout:

LM Wave - A popular tool for good reason.  I own one, but don’t really carry it due to the size & weight.  Consider how often you use the pliers or wire cutters; if not very often, maybe think about downsizing.

Spyderco Para 3 - I understand the convenience of an OHO blade, but if you’re already carrying the Wave with its two OHO blades, the Para 3 may be redundant.

Olight i3T EOS - A quality piece of kit.  I prefer something larger and brighter with longer run time for my needs.  I’ve also had some issues with lights accidentally getting activated in pocket.  But if it is working well for you, no reason to make a change.  I do think you’re wise to carry a separate light source and not rely on your cell phone (as so many seem to these days).

Fisher Space Pen - Preach on, brother!  I carry one of these as well.

Ridge Wallet - I have to admit I wasn’t familiar with these.  But again, if it is working well for you, go with it.  I carry an old and fairly large but quality leather wallet, with probably an unreasonable amount of stuff stashed in it.

Watch - I don’t own a g-shock myself, but have heard nothing but praise for them.

Additional items to consider:

Sliver Grippers/Field Tweezers - I carry a set on my keys; better than any MT tweezers IMO.

Bic Lighter - Even if you don’t smoke, it’s handy to be able to make fire.  In addition to cigars, I use mine all the time for candles, sterno, paracord, campfires, etc.  They cost next to nothing, weigh next to nothing, and take up almost no room in a pocket.

Bandanna - Another inexpensive item that I never leave home without and use all the time.  Besides blowing my nose, I’ve used mine as a napkin, to clean up spills, as a sweat band, as a wound dressing, for sun protection, as a pot holder, etc.  Get some brightly colored ones and you could use them for emergency signaling as well.

Welcome aboard!

My carry has certainly evolved over the past five years. It's gone from only a Victorinox Super Tinker to tactical pants loaded to the brim with knives and multis. Now it's back to a lighter level.

My current carry items (beyond the wallet, keys, and phone) are an Opinel No. 6, a Victorinox Classic, a Victorinox Bantam, a SOG PowerLock, and a bandana. Sunglasses and a pen are added when I step off the property. My flashlights have been getting a workout as of late.

As for FT's current loadout, I agree with Nate regarding the Wave. PB multis can be great, but they are heavy and can be tricky to pocket carry. I also agree with Nate regarding the Olight (though it is worth noting that I've come to prefer a flashlight that can run off alkaline batteries). My typical pen carry is a cheap gel pen, but the Fisher is a great writing instrument. The Ridge wallet is not something I'm familiar with. My keys are presently dangling from a carabiner on my belt loop, but the KeySmart organizer may be worth a look.

A bandana would be a great addition to your carry. They are infinitely useful, and they add next to no weight or bulk to your loadout. I carry mine in the right rear pocket of my Carhartts.

Of course, part of the fun of this hobby is seeing what others are carrying and trying out new things. :tu:

Thanks for the welcome—and solid insight!

SAKs & PWII: Totally agree. Compact, reliable, and super versatile. The PWII is a gem—I wish they still made them!

Wave: Great tool but yeah, heavy. I don’t always need the pliers, so I’m considering a lighter option.

Para 3: Excellent knife, but possibly overkill with the Wave already on hand.

i3T EOS: Reliable, though I’ve also had it turn on in my pocket. Might upgrade for brightness and runtime.

Space Pen: Absolute classic—never leaving my pocket.

Ridge Wallet: Works for me, but I respect the utility of a traditional leather wallet.

G-Shock: Built like a tank. Love it.

Your Suggestions: Sliver Grippers and a Bic are great calls. Bandanna—can’t believe I’m not already carrying one. Adding it now.

Part of the fun for me is to constantly keep refining what I carry, with the goal being maximizing actual utility while minimizing size and weight.  So, for example, I will carry a mini Sharpie (which I use frequently) in place of a full size Sharpie.  But sometimes I carry a giant knife or gun, which violates my utility/size metric.  But as a general rule, I carry smaller items, reduce or eliminate fun but unnecessary (to me) toys (like a Knipex Cobra or Pliers Wrench) and focus on things I use often.  A firearm and pepper spray never get used thank goodness, but they are in a different category.  I have carried a Space Pen like you finlaythomas, but used it so infrequently that I rely on the micro pen in the  Explorer Plus for the rare occasions it is useful.
