Can’t Align Pivot Pin
on: June 03, 2025, 06:47:13 AM
I have a Wave 1st gen that I replaced a broken blade, but I can’t get the pivot pin back in to the end of the pliers. I’ve read about some guide or assembly tool but I can’t find anything on a special tool.  Can someone tell me where to find this guide tool and how to use it to get the pin back in? TIA!

You need to give pressure to align pivot on right place. I have used drill bit to give pressure on pliers pivot to get it in. its bit tricky but once you get bolt on pliers its easier to align rest

Hi wnsnacigator73, I use a tool called a Benchmade Pivot Alignment Tool that I got many years ago from a seller on Etsy. It is essentially a machined rod that has two different turned ends to fit different size pivots. The large size works to align the plier jaws and the smaller size woks with the tool side on Leathermans. It makes aligning all the washers, brass spacers, and tools easier.

In the absence of having the tool, I would try using a drill bit like Antti recommended or try using a punch to align hole to get the pivot bolt through. Good luck.

Do you have a link to the vendor on Etsy who sells the tool? Thank you!

A drill bit will work with some fiddling, like friend Antti said.  I have used a tapered punch successfully to line up all the stuff for reassembly.  Not for Leatherman tools specifically.  You run into the same problem with lots of different things.  Best wishes.  G

If the link is deleted. Type Benchmade Pilot Alignment Tool into any search engine. The seller is RustBucketTools on Etsy. I am not affiliated with them.

Clamp the frame in a vice, insert anything from the back side, wire or a drill of the appropriate diameter, insert a pivot and use it to push out "anything", if necessary, you can gently tap it with a hammer. No problem.

Here is my "Pivot Alignment Tool"   :D

I have one of these, but I'm not sure if it was from the same seller.  I highly recommend getting one.   :tu:
