Inexpensive Titanium Bolt Pen Smootherpro Ti754BL
on: June 04, 2025, 06:24:50 PM
The other day I picked up new titanium bolt pen from the big River site. This time I choose to look for an inexpensive option. What I found that fit this criteria was the Smootherpro Ti754BL. I don’t normally do any reviews, but I have been enjoying it over the past couple of days, so I decided to share my thoughts and experiences with it so far.

In the box, the pen comes preloaded with a black ink cartridge and a spare blue ink cartridge.

The pen body is constructed of four parts, tip, body, bolt assembly, and cap. The clip is a deep carry that is sandwiched between the cap and bolt assembly. My clip came loose in the box. I simply tightened as much as I could by hand. If it loosens again, I will put some blue loctite on the cap threads and retighten. I also replaced the supplied ink cartridge with a Otho PG-M05NP. Which is a fine ceramic roller gel cartridge. The ad says it is compatible with Fischer SPR4 cartridges. I have also run a Parker fine point gel ink cartridge in it.

Pros
1. Price Retail is $29.99 with a current market price of $27.09
2. Common ink cartridge availability
3. Quality machining and conistent anodizing.
4. Bolt action is smooth
5. No branding on the pen.

Cons
1. Some might find the pen slippery
2. Cap might loosen on you resulting in a loose clip.

Overall, for $27.09 this is an inexpensive pen that is worth the asking price. I admit, I did not test the supplied ink cartridge, but my experience has been that the Chinese ones leak and are splotchy. So I simply replace them straight away. So factor that into the final price. Also, with all bolt pens, keep an eye on the bolt lever. Over time they can become loose.

That's a good looker.  Hand tightening will probably work.  Replacing the cartridge with a Fisher is probably a good idea.  Best wishes.  G

It does indeed look good. Probably still too spendy for me to want to carry it, but it would be a good inexpensive way to earn the Titanium badge. :tu:

Thanks Dan. I guess inexpensive is relative. I had a collection of Fenix T5Ti pens and We Knives TP-02  pens. I stored it in a nice leather pen case. I guess one day my wife or sons accidentally put it in with the items to go to donation. So this time around I am looking for much more inexpensive option so if they get lost or “borrowed“  I  won’t mind as much. I now have my eye on the green one.

$30 is not bad for a quality pen.  I spend close to that on Fisher Bullets and their quality and reliability are well worth the extra $$ over cheaper pens.

And I don't even want to tell you how much I spent on a Daryll Ralph titanium bolt action pen.
