Hammer Handles
on: September 06, 2025, 06:54:39 PM
I finally got around to hanging hammer heads on some of my estate sale handles.  Multiple coats of  boiled linseed oil and a rub down with paste wax to finish. The sledge hammer handle was also an estate sale buy.  I had to cut two inches off the broken top so it is a little shorter than usual for an 8 pound sledge hammer.  The hammer handles have dark wood streaks and one has a small knot making them seconds, but to me, it gives them character.

Hammers, hatchets, axes, etc., are a whole genre of cool things that you can both use and collect.

Very nice. I have had done this a couple of times in the past. It has been a long time since I did one. For Ball Peen Hammers of all sizes I use to look for Vaughan made heads. They made hammers for Blue Point, Craftsman, Proto, etc. if the head wasn’t abused and cracked, you could clean the head up and hang a new hickory handle and end up with an awesome hammer. I know the auto body guys covet the Blue Point hammers.

Yadda, Your hickory handles look great with the BLO finish. I hope you enjoy them for a long time.
