Y'awl have some great-looking Spartans. For once my gear can hold its own!

Day 2

Before walking to Dollar Tree, I checked the mail. Something was in the box, so I used the Spartan's small blade to open it.

It was a bill. At least it ain't due for another about 2.5 weeks.

Powernoodle Day 3

I used a Spartan to dissect some corrugated pipe for disposal.  The serrated blade ate it easily.

Day 3

The horn scale Spartan/model 234 in my pocket again - exposed rivets, clip point small blade, sharpened cap lifter, 5 turn corkscrew, but no +PAT on can opener ().
I treat the scales with a jojoba oil from time to time to prevent it from drying and keep the shine on.
But the other day I came across an article about neatsfoot oil that should be the best treatment for horn products. I am going to order a bottle and will report how it works.  [ You are not allowed to view this attachment ]

This week I will be rocking only my favourite, the old black scaled.
Today it went on a naval battle.

Thank you, sire.  I have long been a fan of serrated blades, and wish that more of them appeared on SAKs.  I could almost push cut through the corrugated pipe with the Spartan's serrated blade.

You can't beat a Vic blade to cut anything, especially their serrated blade.

Day 2:

No Spartan use so far. I replaced the back scale on my modified Pioneer X (“modified” in that it has 91mm scissors with the nail nick on the correct side where there’s more room for my nail anyway) with a red one, making it a two-tone.

I have a 60s Companion (Executive) with horn scales. I've used mineral oil on them occasionally because it's what I have. Do you think that's ok? I don't want to accidentally damage them out of ignorance.

BTW, I'm really enjoying all the pictures of the Spartans. I thought seriously about doing the challenge with you all; I carry a Spartan from time to time, but I don't think I could do without my Pioneer for a whole month.

There is still time to join our SPARTAN Challenge.   It does need to be your only knife, just the one you share daily. Then report why you may use another and explain why the Spartan sat on the side lines.

Would luv your perspective!  For me the Pioneer X, and the 3rd layer did not carry comfortably in my pocket.

This day 3, so easy to catch up, add picture of your Spartan to your posts that allow modifications and number accordingly.

Please think about it!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

Hope yours is as good!

Day 3

Packages delivered early and on front porch when I checked my flowers.  These were ordered late afternoon! Amazon is on their A game!

Spartan will do the honors on slicing each open to restock battery stock, prepping for alarm sensors and smoke detectors to replace batteries in a few weeks.

PS: I do enjoy the two layer size for pocket carry!😉

PS2:  I agree, the SE by Victorinox are first rate.  Great for card board breakdown, and I have used hard, but not yet required sharpening a SE blade on any of my SAKs, Hunter, OHT, SESpartan or Butter blade on a Spirit X.
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!

I do too Gordon.  For as little as I use the additional tools, I wonder why I don't carry a Spartan more.

If like my bride, she KNOWS, I learned she knew everything, remembered every detail, and when it is her advantage she can release even more that you no longer recall.    My wife and I joined forces officially in ‘75, would have been 50 years this year, she departed in ‘21🥲

I do too Gordon.  For as little as I use the additional tools, I wonder why I don't carry a Spartan more.

I always carry my 58mm Manager/Vagabond! And I do have selection of pocket knives I prefer to carry.

I will admit, I just did not look at SAKs as serious pocket knifes until maybe 7 or 8 years ago. Well after my ST300  became belt accessory.

My wife told me about a little lady who was her customer at the bank, retrieved a pocket knife from her purse and removed a couple staples ever so slickly before handing the forms for processing.   My wife described the knife, sounded like a SAK, but not RED, green or black handles my wife thought.

Several weeks later at the grocery, my wife called me to join her, and introduced to me the same lady. She asked her to show me her knife!  She retrieved a SAK  she said was issued to her when she served her two year service after high school.  I did not recognize the model but remember 58 stamped on the blade tang.

Her English was broken, but I did understand that she says she carried her issued knife every day, and thought she lost it when she moved to the states to live with son.  He had packed it in boxes that were shipped, not suit cases when she flew.

It was then I started to look at SAK with fresh eyes. A FARMER AND LATER A PIONEER were my first!
If I start and end the day above ground, it is a good day!
