Long time test of bladeless tool (Companion Alox Slim)

About a month ago I bought a Victorinox Alox Slim. And I put it through the test of work and also vacation.

While being at work I mostly used scissors and the package opener. It works surprisingly well.

Last week I did some train travel to the sea here in Germany. The conductor was surprised, he knows the police her is hyper vigilant about everything bladed. As we have especially dumb politicians it's a no-go to take a bladed tool on a train here.

At the sea I mainly used the cap lifter for bottles and also the scissors.

If this tool would be extended with the fish scaler and the pliers it would be even better.

Have you used this tool too? What do you think about it?

I grabbed one. Carried for a few days. Happy with it but not particularly impressed with the package opener. Not that it’s not good, just didn’t work well for ME.

I’m curious to hear more reports of where people are able to use this where a blade would otherwise be restricted. IMO, I can’t imagine many people enforcing such rules would be convinced the package opener isn’t really a blade.

Personally, I’d be more interested in a companion slim setup with the package opener replaced with the electrician blade.

Are you saying the conductor frisked you with a metal detector? - If so - Wow!
Or did you just voluntarily show it to him?

I think I would like to get one as we are not meant to carry any blade here in Oz

Don't really agree that people would classify the box-opener as a blade.
Yes it has a sharp edge - But you cannot stab with it!- Depends on your definition of a blade, I guess

I would not take it on a plane - As here scissors, screwdrivers, basically any tools etc etc are not allowed through the airport.
But wandering around the streets or going to the beach or a footy match - I think you'd be OK.

No. I just opened a bottle of lead free beer with it. The conductor did only mention that the police could confiscate it. When I told him, there's only scissors and some openers on the tool he said "Ok, nothing to worry then."

At the moment it's my go to tool for work, too.

I think you mean non-alcoholic beer, not 'blei-frei' (english lead-free).  I have myself  called non-alcoholic beer blei-frei, so maybe I am not the only one.  I have heard that if knives are in a locked box inside luggage it is OK on German trains.  I need to take the train to go camping, so this is important to me.  Do you know if using a locked box for knives is acceptable?  Thanks!

Yes I would certainly hope that all beer is lead-free  - Whether it contains alcohol or not!!   :o    ;)
Auto translators don't always get it right!  :twak:

Reminds me of the infamous Glass Saw on the Victorinox Rescue Tool which for years was listed as a 'Disc Saw' on the English versions of the Vic website thanks to an auto translator. Cant quite remember the German word that got incorrectly translated. 

It only got corrected thanks to us  here at MTo.
