As for putting it in a newer laptop, a quick search tells me it's a Connector Type: B+M Key
So technically, try to find a laptop that has an additional B+M key compatible slot, otherwise grab an external usb enclosure for it (I have a couple that cover the various types for this sort of situation).
if it's not bitlocked you should be able to mount and access the files both ways.
Unless you are buying an older replacement machine it probably won't give a whole lot to a new laptop other than the additional 512gb of storage.
