Silver tech 91mm not that popular?
on: February 22, 2009, 11:19:36 PM
Actually I´ve never seen the silver tech scales in 91mm until yesterday in a store here in Caracas, Huntsman and Climber. Then I find out in www.sakwiki.com that those scales are sort of new but never read of them here in MT.org.  Aren´t those scales not that popular for any reason?

I would love to have some of the SAKs with those scales :tu: I am just cheap and go for cheaper 2nd hand ones and since they are so new it will be a while before I get one with them :D

When I do I am gonna try and get the Mini Champ with those scales :o :D

Not keen myself.  I think they look a bit bland.  Just my 2p, others love them.

If I didn't have a Huntsman, climber etc I might think about getting one.  I do fancy a Sig lite but they are still kind of pricey for a SAK I'm only a little curious about.  The new LED looks good though.

Minichamp in silver tech? count me in!. I don´t know if it happens only to me but silver tech scales have more appeal on small Vics to my eyes. That was first impression when I saw this 91mm compared with that when I spotted the signature lite (went to my keychain very fast).

wow Neil you already performed surgery in that one :o I like the pics

Now I really do like them :), but until they sell them seperately (got all the 91mm's I want for the time being) I probably won't get any :-\
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

I think they look alright I just am a die hard for the red, nothing says Swiss Army Knife to the casual observer like red handles. I could be persuaded to the dark (black) side I just haven't broken down and bought any yet. Silver Tech seems like something I would buy if I had a job in the technology field maybe. I can picture them on a cyber tool. But MacGyver ruined me :P The man always used red. :climber:

Thy look fine. Problem is, for all their futuristic design, the damn things are still a step back from Plus scales. What, would it kill Victorinox to put a pen in there? Or maybe - gosh - come up with something original? Stupid scale craze.  :-\

Ben's point is a good one, it seems very odd to me that a Cybertool isn't one of the SAKs on offer.

A buddy of mine just picked up a Silvertech 91mm.  They're cool looking, but the scales just don't make me want to run out and get one.

Visually the Silvertech looks interesting.

I'd actually have to see/handle one in person to see if I'd actually like it.

If the MiniChamp came in Silvertech, I'd get one as I am considering the MiniChamp as my laptop bag SAK.

From what I have seen of these Silver Tech scales and my experience with clear or translucent type scales, I figure they will not wear very well. They will probably easily get dirty and scratched up making them unappealing after regular EDC use.
Something I do not understand either is the cost differential. I have my eyes on a Citrine Signature lite. It runs about $14 US from SMKW, while the same knife in Silver Tech is $25! An $11 difference is just wrong and I probably will not buy one.

Probably just dealer mark up on new products. Like the spyderco bug was sold at twice the MSRP the first couple of days it came out.

These scales are just plastic, right? They're not metal?

Cellidor is a plastic isn't it? And that's kind of my point - why make plastic that looks like metal? Why not use metal?

Yeah why don't they put the LEDs in the 91mm version  they have them in the 58mms would seem like a great idea to me :-\ :D

Haha that one went to Dad. He likes blue, plus they were the brand new handles on the donor I bought and I wanted to make it look like new. The vice marks probably didn't help that :P

Yeah, if they wanted to put the tech in Silver Tech they could have done plus scales, an LED, USB drive, Cybertool models, etc. Why a model like the Huntsman, the classic outdoor knife? Whatever, I am convinced they don't have a well-informed marketing team. I could revolutionize that company. Okay, at least bring a change we can believe in. No, that sounds a little arrogant too... :P

I agree. It was red all they way for me. Then you joined the forum and started showing me pictures of SAKs with those lovely blue scales.   ::) ;) :D

Still like red as well though :)
