Facebook weirdness.
on: May 12, 2026, 03:32:28 AM
I have to ask this question that is bothering me. Why do so many businesses advertise on Facebook but neglect to give a location?

Come eat at our restaurant, etc...leaving you wondering if the place is in your city, region, country...

It is rather common and oh so pointless.
A little Leatherman information.

because facebook gets paid no matter what.

I often find when I am trying to find out more about something I typically lose it in the facebook refresh before I can find the actual link/info I'm looking for... and I find trying to dig through facebook history a nightmare.

Well, I’m not on FB, and never was.

My guess is that one of two things is happening:

1.  FB already “knows” your location and the locations of the businesses, and is giving you targeted local content.

2.  Businesses may or may not be in your area, but FB doesn’t really care as long as they get their advertising revenue.

Probably wouldn’t be too hard to verify which by spot checking a few of the ads.

No FB, but I have had the same problem on LI, i.e. once my feed refreshes and a post disappears from it, that post is virtually impossible to find again.

My solution, which seems to be working well thus far, is to immediately save/favorite any post I see that seems interesting or I want to respond to.  This makes it easy to find again.  And when I’ve posted my response, I usually unsave the original post, knowing that I’ll be notified if anyone reacts or responds to my post.

After 1 year in Paris (having already updated my location, and many posts of places we visited) Facebook welcomed me to Paris. A tad late on that one.

Yes, i do this sometimes with some fb posts and more often for YouTube videos when I want to watch on a larger screen than my phone

It’s stupid, like whoey said, fb doesn’t care, so long as they get paid, normally if I find something interesting I’ll take the name and look it up vs clicking on their link cause I don’t trust them, half the time you’ll get taken to something that has nothing to do with what was posted in the first place..

The most annoying thing lately is that the "open in external browser" does nothing, you have to open in the Facebook app first to then get a link.

Also, every few weeks I get a "do you want less notifications like this?", and yet I don't notice less of those notifications
