I have a Wenger watch and it loses a hour a week. Is this normal?

That's pretty pants IMO.

What type of watch is it?  My Wenger has no such problems.

Nope- that's not right.  I would consider contacting Wenger to see about getting it fixed.  Your local jewellry shop may also have some ideas on how to fix it.

Definately not normal for quartz, or any watch for that matter.

No, that is not right at all then.  Even my mechanical watch loses far less time than that and that is donkies years old and was adjusted by myself.

Rules of thumb:
If it's quartz, get a new battery and see if that helps, if it doesn't send it back. If it's mechanical, send it back.

Yours appears to be quartz. Doesn't matter if it's new to you, it could have been sitting on a shelf for a long time. So, try a new battery first. Be advised, I have had jewelers replace batteries for me and they have put in old batteries that they bought in bulk years before, which went dead. Sooooo, if the second battery doesn't work, you may go buy your own battery and have them use it.

Mine is quartz. Also how do you get the back off? Looking at it I assume it screws off. And what batteries do Wengers take?

If it has little notches on the back, it's a screw on. Your owners manual will tell you which battery to use. Also, any competent, operative word here is "competent" jeweler can tell what battery you will need when you take it in. Please, do not take it to one of those little islands in the middle of the mall. Go to a real jeweler who sells Wengers, that will be your best bet. And don't be afraid to ask (politely) how old their batteries are and to please not gouge the case with their case back tool.

Local walmart's jewelry counter will let people use their case back tool so they can change battery (which they also sell in single dated retail package), and it's quite easy to use. I've used snap ring plier to open mine but it's 7 years old so I didn't care that much if I scratch the back a bit.

Just be sure not to let the Walmart employees do this for you. Like jzmtl says, just borrow the case back tool and do it yourself if you feel comfortable doing so. But even a real (and competent) jeweler should cost under $10.00 and they'll clean around the gasket and probably even put the proper amount of silicone on it too.

Good luck! :)

Maxell or Energizer would be fine and for some reason they stick in my mind as good ones to use. Just check the date on the package so you get the newest one you can.

Definetly not normal I have two Wengers and three Vic that I would put up against higher end watchs.

I would shy away from DIY and Wal Mart and take it to a jeweler, It might cost a little more but worth the difference while they have it open they can check seals and such.
