Different carry method
on: March 19, 2009, 04:21:50 PM
For years now I have had a carry method that I have never mentioned here and thought I would throw it out there to see what people think. I have a lanyard with a magnet on the end of it, it's two round magnets that are quite strong and they are super glued to a Leatherman lanyard (removable). I simply loop one end to my belt or belt loop and it dangles in my pocket and I can carry things ranging from a large SAK to a SOG PPP. Only downside to this is sometimes your pocket will latch onto something magnetic when you get real close to it and it magnatizes your tool in the location that you have the magnets. What you guys think?? Cool or not cool?

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

Sort of, I think Tom came up with it. His involved a magnet used for something like holding a paracord bracelet together, I think mine is stronger and even though a cheap version of his it works better. Due to the shape of my magnet I can attach the magnet in places that he could not (I think so at least).

Actually no, there was an episode of mythbusters where it took alot of magnetic power to wipe a card. "Using an electromagnet, they determine it would take at least 1000 gauss to wipe a card. The Earth's magnetic field is one gauss. They look at a number of household objects and they only get as high as 70 gauss which is no where near the needed 1000. To finally prove the myth busted, they put a credit card in a tank of electric eels and again nothing happens."

Hope that helps

 Sounds like a neat alternative Dave :tu: I use neodymium rare earth element magnets for a lot of different things  and I may just try and add that 1 to the list sometimes :D
