Help me find long lost knife.
on: August 25, 2007, 03:45:50 PM
Hi all,

After being on here a few days it is clear that there are some very knowledgeable members that know a lot about knives and multitools.

I don't know if anyone can help, but many years ago my dad bought me a knife from Norfolk in the UK, to go fishing with.  It had black scales with, from what I can remember, a silver wavey design etched into it (like long flowers or ivy).  It also had, again from what I can remember, one large blade, one small blade and some scissors and if my memory is correct that was all.  It was smaller than a 91mm knife and I don't know what brand of knife it was, or even if it had a brand.

Anyway, one day my Nan found it in my pocket and as I was young at the time, took it away from me as she thought it was dangerous.  A few years later I actually asked for it back and she looked for it but realised that she must have thrown it away.  I was gutted and have always wanted to replace it with the same one but didn't know where to start.  But now I have found this forum I thought I'd just ask if anyone had any ideas as to what it could have been?

Now I know that my details are very vague and there could be 100's of knives out there that are like this, so I am not expecting any responses.  But you just never know!!!!

Thanks all

Benner
I'm back!!

Can you give us a rough idea of how long ago it was that you got it?  It sounds like a SAK Knockoff- not too many slip joints other than SAKs have scissors, but no models I can think of are just the large and small blades and scissors.  Thge Compact would be closest, but has the combo tool and corkscrew.  It's also 91mm, but there was a model called the Golfer that was 84mm.

Of course if it's possible that the small blade was a nail file, it might have been a Money Clip.  Does this one look familiar?

It's entirely possible it's a Sheffield as they used to actually be manufactured in the UK- in Sheffield if I am not mistaken! :D  Modern Sheffields are made in China and distributed by a company in North Carolina or something like that.

I hope that kind of thing never happens in Solingen!

I must have got it 12 years ago (thats why I am not very hopefull of finding one).

It just had a standard steel blade.  From what I can remember, the knife was quite slender (I remember thinking at the time that it looked like a girls knife with the flowers as well  ::) ).  Felt quite good quality, although I was only 10 at the time.

Got quite attached though.  I know that sounds sad but it was my first ever pocket knife.

To be honest it could have been a file yes.  It's certainly similar to that in it's config.  A but thinner though and of course black with a silver flowery design etched in.
