Mini review:Ganzo Firebird F7551

So,for one reason or another, this is the first knife I've bought in three or four months. I'd seen one on a Facebook group and was rather intrigued. So,finding it for a mere £...no,that bit can wait until we've had a look around it!

With a 84mm SAK for comparison

Blade opened

Yes,it's fully ambidextrous, and the pocket clip is reversible

Fit is acceptable for the price

Blade centreing is not perfect, but again, for the price...

The blade is a humble 440 steel, but comes with a nice edge to it. Closed, the Firebird feels a bit weird in the hand, and it's a little heavy in the pocket...but that might just be down to the amount of time I've been carrying a Byrd Meadowlark!

In the hand though, the F7551 is a joy. The choil offers a good grip for precise work, while a full hand around the scales is ideal for heavier cutting. The balance of the knife is very good. The F7551 has already seen a fair bit of exposure at work, and has performed very well, albeit at the cost of looking more intimidating than either my Meadowlark(!) or my Spyderco Ambitious.

This isn't my first Ganzo with an axis lock, and I've got to say I'm a fan of this style of lock. I'd be surprised if the scales are actually carbon fibre, but the feel good in the hand, and look the business.

Oh...and the cost? £17 delivered from a certain Far East website who shall remain nameless!

Pros:
Low cost
Great ergonomics
Unusual style

Cons:
Er...nothing significant!

Summary:
A really good medium sized folder, with lots of character, for very little money!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Thank you for the review, kirk!  I recently got my first Ganzo folder and the quality is pretty good. Comparable to $30-$50 knives...IMO
This has me intrigued to buy a 7551! Been wanting a clever style folder for a while anyway.
How is the action on the axis lock? I have read that Ganzo axis pin springs are quite strong compared to the big name knives.
My Ganzo is a Spyderco military ripoff(liner lock), but the action is only about 75% as good as the cheap SpydercoTenacious. But, at less than half the price, I won't be so upset if I leave it sitting around somewhere on accident (the main reason I don't buy expensive knives).
Pontificating particularly pious positions pertaining to polymorphic paraphernalia. G-Man.

I've not had the chance to play with other axis locks. The lock feels secure but doesn't require exceptional leverage to release.

Good stuff mate.  Not quite my cup of darjeeling, but if it works for you then it's all good.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I like my Ganzo Auto (758) and been carrying it daily. I'm also waiting for my 7611. I looked at that cleaver style and thought that its not useful to chop with. Am I missing something?

Great review! I have bought their new model FH11-BK with D2 steel and ball berings. I am so excited with the quality of this knife. It is really their best model. I bought it on Amazon ,
