Benner,

Nice CS Twistmaster!  :tu:  Years ago I passed on some good deals on those and kick myself now for not getting them. Hell, I still don't own even a single Opinel yet!  :bnghd:

2xTap

Thanks.  :tu:

You don't really hear much about them anymore, but they are good, reliable knives.  This one has actually seen a lot of use, but as you can see cleans up real nice.

Oh, and I don't own any Opinels either. Despite liking the Twistmaster, they just don't appeal to me for some reason.

Thats pretty surprising given the similarities.  Any idea what puts you off them?

I think it's the (maybe unjustified) reputation of being for light-ish use only.  I'm also not a huge fan of wooden handles on folders either.  The Twistmaster seems to be far stronger (only from what I have read, I have not tested an Opinel) and has a more substantial, zytel handle which I much prefer.

The Twistmaster does look more rugged to be fair.  For their price Opinels perform well IMO, but they do tend to be fairly cheap :)

In defence of Opinel I've given them some fairly hard use in the past and they've always done well.  I've got a mate who abuses his like mad, never oils or sharpens it and just lets it rust as his has lasted him for years and still does the job.

You should have a play with one if you can; you might be surprised :)

I have had a quick play with one, and the whole thing just felt very light cheapy.  But, they are cheap so I'm not sure what I was expecting.  :D

I'll probably get a 3" one one day for a proper test.
I'm back!!

Benner,

There's definitely no doubt that CS's version of a ring locker is stronger than any Opinel. CS has a tendancy to have their designs built stronger than they probably need to be, but that's not a bad thing.

While I do like modern knives of more modern materials, I have a soft spot for the traditional......I like wood on my knives. My problem with Opinels is that while they are inexpensive my money always seems to go to other things!

The 3G steel is very good to use, once I figured out how to sharpen it  ;)

Got my Aegis today, going to test it out at work and see how it performs. I hope it works better than my Flash II, I find with my Flash the knife hits the back of the handle (plastic) and dulls my blade quicker.

I know, I have the same problem with Opinels.  They are always the "I'll pick one up next time" knife, and next time never comes.  Of course, I remember Def telling me something about remedying that situation or something......... I don't remember!?    ;)

Well, I sold my spyderco military which was my EDC, so Tenacious for now. I've come to the conclusion 30° is too acute for aus8/8cr13mov and it can't hold an edge, so bumped it down to 40°.

You can't go wrong with the Tenacious.  :tu:
This is called a Swiss Army Knife. Do you know what Switzerland is? Switzerland is a place where they don't like to fight, so they get people to do their fighting for them while they ski and eat chocolate. - Larry David

I've been tempted more than once to pick one of those up.  I think I might go for the fully serrated unit though.  I like the full flat grind on the blade and of course the price.
