Last night, my husband used his Micra to cut open a tied plastic bag holding Chinese food, and my friend and I took turns with Crosscuts opening beer bottles.

First night in new house tonight, camp bed and sleeping bag. Going to be about a month to get fully transferred due to other commitments. Put together a computer desk earlier with just a Gerber Dime and a Screwzall. Lots of package opening of new homewares and cutting of zip ties and plastic tags with Wenger Traveller. Can't believe I didn't carry a full sixed multi today, but bottom line is that what I had in my pockets did everything I needed.

Yesterday I used my SOG powerlock to pull the cotter pin on the brakes of my Uncle's tractor. Had an "oh smurf" moment when the head rotated sideways.   I thought I had broken a tooth, but luckily it readjusted it self when I closed it.  :multi:

I just reparied the main zipper on my cycling jacket ive had for around 4 years,i was gutted when last friday the zip broke off, so i took the lower part of a zip off a old zip up top and using the pliers on my PT and the large flat head on my explorer i reparied it, although sadly the material lower end is worn so i dont know how long it will last, as long as it gets me through the wet weather at the moment it will be fine  :tu:

Gerber MP600

Barely managed to open the beer as the lower handle gets in the way. I tried it with a smaller 25cl beer too and it was even worst..

That is a bummer. I did this same kind of thing a few weeks ago. I took a bunch of MTs over to a friend's house, and we gave them a good 'scientific testing' on a bunch of beer bottles.

Our latest test shows that the cap lifter on the SOG crosscut tends to cut through the cap, so it takes three or four attempts before the cap is removed. Not great, but it works... eventually.

This has made me think a Gerber Dime might be a good addition.

The opener on the Dime really is a good one. :tu:

I don't remember having any particular issue with using the MP600, but then I don't actually drink beer all that often.  I'll perhaps give it a go later tonight.

The problem with the MP600 is that there is no way to fold the handle out of the way like you would do with most of the other multitools. The actual tool is OK.

Maybe Gerber people do not open many bottles!

but then I don't actually drink beer all that often.
Gareth proves my point

It should work better with a bottle with a longer neck

Now, let me add that today is a public holiday here, in case people think I regularly drink all day (any more) ..

I used the Schrade USA Tough Tool to open a beer.

It worked fine.  :tu:  I was worried that it would puncture the cap as it is pointy since it is used as a can openner too, but the cap was undamaged as the actual edge is not very thin.

Well I've just held my MP600 up to a couple of different types of bottle.  One bottle has a longer neck and I had no issue getting the opener in there. :tu:  The other was a little 'stubbie' bottle and I did run into issues. :(  Happily though this was easily solved by simply sliding the pliers open again and letting the lower handle drop out of the way.  Fits just fine now.

Of course, it is easy to think of that if you have not been drinking all day..

 :D

You know some people here say that Gerber throws out a, very clever,  product without too much testing and I am beginning to think there could be something to it..

I used my Spirit scissors to cut the irritating tag out of my shorts. I am simply amazed at how effortless it was. The spring on those little scissors rock. I have been slow to use my Spirit since I got it but it is growing on me.
