Start a new job today - sort of.
on: August 24, 2009, 12:35:39 PM
Due to various reasons (it's a long story and I won't bore you all with the details) I am being moved to work in another house for the next few months as they are struggling with experienced staffing.  It's not a new job as such as I am going over in my current role, but it is a new building, new kids and new staff and it works very differently over there so it might as well be.  The children are 16-18 and all show challenging behaviour a lot worse than the current children I work with and a couple of them have really bad epilepsy as well.

I can't say I am chuffed about moving as I have been given very little choice in the matter, but it will be an interesting challenge to say the least.

My first shift is a late tonight and just to make it more interesting, I am one staff down as well.  ::)  Talk about start as you mean to go on.

Anyways, if you don't hear from me for a while it will be because I am in a hospital somewhere, so Mike you better come visit me.  :D

Wish me luck guys!
I'm back!!

better a new job/position than no job...
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I guess you like a challenge, or perhaps just living dangerously  ???

Either way, good luck staying on one piece!

Violent challenging behaviour has always interested me and that was a huge reason why I started where I work now.  Back when I first started, my house was the house for challenging behaviour and it was hard, yet very rewarding work.  Nowadays most of the challenging kids have moved onto other units and the current lot I have aren't as difficult (still plenty challeging though!) and I have missed that in a way.

The kids on this house aren't really kids though, more young adults and compared to tiny me are very big and their behaviour is a lot worse than I currently have.  I do have a lot of experience with this kind of group though (hence the move) as I have been on call many times for this kind of behaviour.  That element doesn't bother me, it's the whole starting again and learning that takes a lot of time.
I'm back!!

LOL.  Benner is going to get his butt kicked!!  HAHA.  Hey, they hurt you, you let me know and I'll fly over there and save your scrawny a$$!!  LOL.
Seriously, as someone who has worked with troubled kids, disabled and not, and who has taught martial arts to them (thus giving them the tools to kick my butt), I'm with you bro.  Take care, be safe, and just handle your business.

I won't admit it... but I was disappointed too.  Wait, did I just admit it?
